Abstract: A method and system provide for multi-surface patterning. An input target multi-surface consisting of multiple target surfaces is obtained. A first guide curve is obtained. A pattern is obtained. One or more section planes are created based on the pattern and the first guide curve. The one or more section planes are intersected with each of the multiple target surfaces resulting in an intersection curve for each of the multiple target surfaces. A single continuous curve is created from the intersecting curves. Points are generated based on the continuous curve, the first guide curve, and the pattern. An object is generated and placed based on the points.

  • Patent number: 11281819
Abstract: A design engine consolidates portions of a mechanical assembly design to reduce the number of components included in the design. The design engine analyzes the design to determine various criteria associated with the assembly. Then, the design engine identifies a group of components within the design to be consolidated. The design engine determines a volumetric region where the group of components resides and then subdivides the volumetric region. The design engine then initiates a generative design process based on the determined criteria to create geometry within each subdivision of the volumetric region. The newly generated geometry includes fewer components than the initial group of components. The design engine then replaces the group of components with the newly generated geometry, thereby consolidating the group and reducing the total number of components included in the design.

  • Patent number: 11270037
Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, and computer program product provide the ability to simulate a construction schedule. A first three-dimensional (3D) model and a schedule are acquired. The schedule includes activities for building the 3D model. Each of the activities is associated with model object(s) of the 3D model. A subset of the activities is selected based on properties of the activities. A first simulation appearance (of the model objects attached to the selected subset of activities) is defined. A second simulation appearance is defined for remaining/non-selected activities. The selected subset, the first simulation appearance, and the second simulation appearance are packaged into a playback profile that is capable of being applied to a second 3D model. A simulation of construction of the first 3D model (that is based on the playback profile) is played back.

  • Patent number: 11263360
Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, and computer program product provide the ability to dynamically generate a digital building information model. Design data for various designs is received. The design data for each design is encoded into a graph. A knowledge base (consisting of a collection of the design data, actions taken on the design data, and interpretations of the received design data) is maintained. The knowledge base processes and stores the graph, and indexes and provides access to design knowledge. The knowledge base is iteratively trained based on the graph and updates to the graph, and translates user input for new design projects into actionable design models, documentation, and analytical data. User input (e.g., a sketch or bubble diagram) is received. As the user input is received, a layout floorplan is generated and displayed in real-time (based on the user input and the knowledge base).

  • Patent number: 11262850
Abstract: Via no-handed inputs to a smartwatch, an end-user can initiate various smartwatch operations when either or both hands of the end-user are occupied. The smartwatch includes a suite of sensors for capturing inertial, acoustic, and optical data. The smartwatch also interfaces with a handheld mobile computing device and/or a shoe-mounted pedometry device to capture additional sensor data. A control engine executing on the smartwatch processes captured sensor data and identifies no-handed inputs performed by the end-user. The control engine maps these no-handed inputs to specific commands that can be executed on the smartwatch to initiate smartwatch operations.

  • Patent number: 11256834
Abstract: A design space analyzer generates a parametric model associated with a design problem. The design space analyzer then discretizes various parameters associated with the model and generates a plurality of sample designs using different combinations of discretized parameters. The design space analyzer also computes one or more metrics for each sample design. In this fashion, the design space analyzer generates a coarse approximation of the design space associated with the design problem. The design space analyzer then evaluates portions of that approximation, at both global and local scales, to identify portions of the design space that meet certain feasibility criteria. Finally, the design space analyzer modifies the design space to facilitate more efficient exploration during optimization.

  • Patent number: 11222146
Abstract: An urban design pipeline automatically generates design options for an urban design project. The urban design pipeline includes a geometry engine and an evaluation engine. The geometry engine analyzes design criteria, design objectives, and design heuristics associated with the urban design project and then generates numerous candidate designs. The design criteria specify a property boundary associated with a region of land to be developed. The design objectives indicate a specific type of topology that is derived from an existing urban layout. The design heuristics include different sets of construction rules for generating designs with specific types of topologies. The geometry engine generates candidate designs that conform to the property boundary and have topological characteristics in common with the existing urban layout.

  • Publication number: 20210398343
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system provide the ability to crop a three-dimensional (3D) scene. The 3D scene is acquired and includes multiple 3D images (with each image from a view angle of an image capture device) and a depth map for each image. The depth values in each depth map are sorted. Multiple initial cutoff depths are determined for the scene based on the view angles of the images (in the scene). A cutoff relaxation depth is determined based on a jump between depth values. A confidence map is generated for each depth map and indicates whether each depth value is above or below the cutoff relaxation depth. The confidence maps are aggregated into an aggregated model. A bounding volume is generated out of the aggregated model. Points are cropped from the scene based on the bounding volume.

  • Patent number: 11203157
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for preparing geometry for 3D printing. In one embodiment, a 3D printing preparation application receives 3D geometry and repairs non-manifold edges and non-manifold vertices, producing a topological manifold geometry. The 3D printing preparation application then welds coincident edges without coincident faces and fills holes in the geometry. The 3D printing preparation application may further perform resolution-aware thickening of the geometry by estimating distances to a medial axis based on distances to distance field shocks, and advecting the distance field using a velocity field. A similar approach may be used to perform resolution-aware separation enforcement. Alternatively, one component may be globally thickened and subtracted from another for separation enforcement. The 3D printing preparation application may also split large models and add connectors for connecting the split pieces after printing.
