Abstract: A circuit breaker includes a cam assembly which holds the load blade in contact with the line strap during normal operation. The cam assembly includes a cam surface on a cam which can slide along the load blade and a bearing surface on the load blade. In normal operation, the cam is biased on the load blade so that the cam surface engages the bearing surface. The force applied by the cam surface to the bearing surface in normal operation is approximately parallel to the force applied by the load blade to the line strap, thus, the cam surface does not tend to slide along the bearing surface during normal operation. When a high overcurrent fault occurs, blow-open forces exerted between the load blade and the line strap cause the cam to pivot to a position where the cam surface no longer engages the bearing surface, allowing the load blade to swing free of the cam and break the contact between the load blade and the line strap.

Abstract: A bonding screw is pre-assembled in a distribution panel in a non-bonding position that does not bond a neutral bar within the panel enclosure to the enclosure wall. This allows an installer of the panel to select between the option of maintaining the bonding screw in the pre-assembled non-bonding position and the option of positioning the bonding screw from non-bonding position to a bonding position. A basepan is disposed within the enclosure between the neutral bar and the enclosure's back wall. The non-bonding position is defined by the screw shank thread having a threaded engagement with a through-hole in a basepan, the head of the bonding screw being spaced from the neutral bar, and the shank of the bonding screw being spaced from the enclosure's back wall. The bonding position is defined by the head of the electrically conductive part being disposed against the neutral bar and the shank being threaded into an extruded hole in the enclosure's back wall.

Abstract: Ease of assembly, inexpensive construction and improved reliability may be achieved in a trip mechanism for an overload relay including a housing containing a bistable armature mounted in the housing on a pivot for pivotal movement between two stable positions. Fixed contacts are located within the housing and moveable contacts are carried by leaf springs for movement to a closed position with the fixed contacts for one of the two stable positions and for movement to an open position relative to the fixed contacts for the other of the two stable positions. Projections carried by the armature are operative to move the leaf springs and their associated contacts. A latch arm is carried by the armature and has a latch surface. A spring is mounted on the housing and has a latch finger for engaging the latch surface and retaining the armature in one of the two positions.
Abstract: An transfer device for moving substrates from one position to another comprises a base and a drive arm pivotally connected to one another about a first pivot axis. A drive is connected to the drive arm for moving the drive arm through an arc about the first pivot axis. The drive arm has a free end which has a second pivot axis disposed parallel to the first pivot axis. The drive arm free end further including at least one article handling element which is rotatably disposed about the second pivot axis. A belt rotatably couples the at least one article handling element to the base such that upon movement of the drive arm through the arc in a first rotary direction the at least one article handling element is rotated in the other opposite direction to move a substrate along a straight line path.
Abstract: An apparatus for securing a mechanical frame to the base of a circuit breaker. The mechanical frame includes a U-shaped tab defined by first and second legs extending from the bottom of the frame. Each leg has an interior edge and an exterior edge. The interior edges of the legs are separated from one another by a predetermined distance, and at least one of the legs includes a lateral groove across its interior edge. The base includes a generally rectangular slot into which the tab is inserted. At the center of the slot is a cylindrical void extending through the circuit breaker base. A blind rivet having a head portion and a body portion, is inserted into the cylindrical void from the outside of the base such that the body portion of the rivet is between the legs of the tab. The blind rivet is then mechanically upset causing the body portion of the rivet to expand into the lateral groove in the tab and to pull the object securely toward the base.
Abstract: An under voltage trip device for low and medium voltage breakers is disclosed. A first power supply receives unregulated power from a control voltage supply which is rectified and regulated with portions of the power supply monitored by a processor. The output of the first power supply is supplied to a second power supply which allows pulsing modulating power to be supplied to a solenoid connected thereto. The current supplied to the solenoid is measured and calculated by the processor and stored therein as well as being compared to stored values, thereby determining solenoid armature position and predicting or warning of solenoid failure. Connected to the second power supply is a third power supply which operates in a voltage regulator supply mode and a switcher mode during start-up and continuous running operation respectively, such mode being controlled by the processor.

Abstract: An actuator (144) for initiating a trip of a circuit breaker. Load current passes through a conductor (66) that is electrically coupled to a contact arm (56) by a braid (62). A thermally responsive bi-metal (64) has a first end portion which is disposed against a portion of the conductor (66) and through which at least a portion of load current carried by the contact arm, the braid, and the conductor passes. The bi-metal further has a second end portion that is disposed in spaced relation to the conductor and is cantilever-mounted on the portion of the conductor via the bi-metal's first end portion. The bi-metal is nominally flat and straight, but increasingly warps as thermal energy in the bi-metal increases. Upon attaining a certain degree of warping, the bi-metal initiates a trip of the circuit breaker by causing the contact arm to swing from a circuit-making to a circuit-breaking condition.
