  • Patent number: 8376427
Abstract: An energy absorber for a bumper assembly of a vehicle and a method for the manufacture thereof are described. The absorber includes a tubular body (1) aligned with the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, with a first end (1a) for being joined to the body of the vehicle and a second end (1b) for being joined to a transversely arranged bumper cross-member. The tubular body (1) is made of a single piece of bent sheet metal with two end edges (11, 12) defining the first and second ends (1a, 1b) and two adjacent side edges (13, 14) joined together defining a longitudinal seam (2) extending between the first and second ends (1a, 1b). The method includes providing sheet metal provided with opposite side edges (13, 14) and bending it until the side edges (13, 14) are adjacent to form a tubular body (1) with first and second ends (1a, 1b) defined by the end edges (11, 12) and joining the adjacent side edges (13, 14) together defining a longitudinal seam (2).

  • Patent number: 8359893
Abstract: The method includes providing a planar sheet part; forming the planar sheet part by drawing or conical spinning to the shape of a partially formed part made up of a plate and a provisional hollow portion extending from the plate with a revolution shape with respect to an axis perpendicular to the plate, and an end wall closing an end of the provisional hollow portion opposite to the plate; and elongating a section of the provisional hollow portion by cylindrical or conical spinning. The shock absorber is integral with a plate and an elongated hollow portion extending from the plate with a revolution shape. A section of the elongated hollow portion has a thickness that is thinner than the thickness of the plate.

  • Publication number: 20110089707
Abstract: The invention relates to an energy absorber for a vehicle bumper assembly, comprising a thrust transmitting section (1) and a deformable section (2) which are connected to one another, the respective opposing ends thereof being connected to a bumper cross-member (3) and a longitudinal member (4) of a main structure of the vehicle. The thrust transmitting section (1) includes a thrust transmitting member (5) having an elongate configuration extending along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The deformable section (2) includes: deformable members (6, 8) in the form of a bridge defining stacked and joined supporting configurations (6a, 8a) to which the thrust transmitting member (5) is connected, and legs (6b) which extend from said supporting configurations (6a, 8a) substantially along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and which are connected to the longitudinal member (4), optionally by means of a flat bar (10).

  • Patent number: 7841648
Abstract: The invention relates to a support crossbeam for an instrument panel to be assembled between two side elements of a frame of an automotive vehicle next to a front part of an interior. The crossbeam integrates several anchoring and supporting configurations for the steering column, several airbags, fuse boxes, ventilation system elements, sound equipment, among others, and is obtained by pressure die-casting of a light metal alloy, such a magnesium alloy, in an elongated single part extending between first and second ends. This single part has an open cross-section general profile, adapted to be demolded in a transverse direction of the crossbeam, with at least one tubular portion with a cross-section closed in at least one of said first or second ends, adapted to be demolded in the longitudinal direction of the crossbeam.

  • Patent number: 7703820
Abstract: The invention relates to a bumper cross-member including an elongated body having a three-dimensional configuration formed from several metal sheet elements joined together by welding and shaped. The three-dimensional configuration has a non-uniform open transversal section along the body. The method includes joining several metal sheet elements together by welding in order to produce a flat tailored blank and shaping the tailored blank to produce the body. Shaping is carried out by hot or cold stamping. The several metal sheet elements can be joined either mutually adjacent or overlaid by different welding techniques, they can be of different of identical thicknesses and of the same type or different types of steel.
