  • Patent number: 6704445
Abstract: A computer system is provided such that histograms are displayed in a histogram window according so that a spike in the histogram that is significantly larger than the other histogram values is not used as the scaling factor for displaying the histogram. Rather, a histogram value other than the largest histogram value is used to scale the histogram in the histogram window. Consequently other peaks in the histogram are emphasized in the display and the largest peak does not dwarf the other peaks due to the scaling used to fully represent the largest peak.

  • Patent number: 6704671
Abstract: The present invention provides for a method and system for identifying a sonic event of interest within a received audio signal. A sonic event is characterized by a predetermined rate of change in the perceived audio volume, and is associated with the loudness of the audio. The present invention detects a sonic event such as a percussive hit without requiring that the detector be disabled for a fixed time to avoid false triggering. Because the detector is not disabled during the detection process, sonic events occurring in close proximity are easily recognized and not ignored as in some conventional systems.

  • Patent number: 6687407
Abstract: The application discloses a media processing method that includes accessing a compressed image data set representing a time series of different compressed video images. These video images have been compressed to differing degrees based on sizes of the compressed video images with a plurality of different quantization tables. The compressed image data set can then be decompressed to retrieve the time series of different video images, and this step of decompressing can be operative independent of information indicating a difference between quantization tables used to compress the images.

  • Patent number: 6664966
Abstract: A nonlinear editing system for audio, video and/or other source materials comprises a system to define at least one time line representing the edit, the time line being represented in the editing system as an operator graph. The operator graph includes operators, representing sources and time-based effects, and time varying connections therebetween. For each period of the defined time line wherein the connections do not change, a expression tree comprising a simplified representation of the operators and the connections required to render that portion of the time line is extracted. Each expression tree can be examined to ensure that all of the required sources and/or connections are available to render that portion of the time line in real time and, if this is not the case, a determination can be made of which portions of the expression tree can be pre-rendered to an intermediate result, the intermediate result being substituted into expression tree to provide real time rendering.

  • Patent number: 6665450
Abstract: Two images are analyzed to compute a set of motion vectors that describes motion between the first and second images. A motion vector is computed for each pixel in an image at a time between the first and second images. This set of motion vectors may be defined at any time between the first and second images, such as the midpoint. The motion vectors may be computed using any of several techniques. An example technique is based on the constant brightness constraint, also referred to as optical flow. Each vector is specified at a pixel center in an image defined at the time between the first and second images. The vectors may point to points in the first and second images that are not on pixel centers. The motion vectors are used to warp the first and second images to a point in time of an output image between the first and second images using a factor that represents the time between the first and second image at which the output image occurs.

  • Patent number: 6647479
Abstract: An operating system has a file system which supports writing data to a file in a logical loop of clusters of storage locations. Writing can be performed in looped or unlooped modes, and a transition between looping and non-looped recording may be supported. Recording prior to occurrence of an asynchronous event is performed in a looped mode. After occurrence of the asynchronous event, the data collected in the looped portion is seamlessly merged with subsequently collected data by manipulation of pointers to the clusters by the operating system. By providing such a general structure for use in a file system of a computer, a substantially larger amount of memory is available for looped recording. In fact, several minutes of full motion broadcast quality video may be captured. In addition, by using the file system to handle the storage of data, an application does not need to arrange of recorded information on a physical recording medium.
