    Abstract: In an intake passage arrangement in an internal combustion engine at least two intake ports located in a cylinder head depart from a common intake flow path. In the area where the flow path branches into the separate intake ports a swirl control device configured as a control flap is positioned, which is rotatable about a rotation axis situated at one end of the control flap. In one position the control flap opens both intake ports, whereas it blocks one intake port in another position. To ensure control of the swirl motion of the intake flow entering the combustion chamber and to permit a most simple and compact design an intermediary part carrying the control flap is essentially configured as a thin, flat frame, and preferably as a die-cast part made of aluminum.

In order to improve the quality of the exhaust gases while maintaining high efficiency, a largely homogeneous fuel-air mixture should be produced in the combustion chamber in the compression-ignition region.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an injection system for an internal combustion engine operating on self-igniting, liquefied petroleum gas and including at least one injector per cylinder for direct fuel injection into the combustion chamber, a fuel tank in which fuel is held at a feed pressure, and a high-pressure fuel pump delivering fuel to the injector, the pressurized parts of the injector system being connected with the fuel tank by means of pressure relief lines. In order to ensure safe operation in a simple manner the proposal is put forward that a heating device should be provided which will convert the liquefied gas, at least partially, into a gaseous phase, at least in certain sections of the pressurized parts of the injection system. The gas bubble produced during this process will convey the liquid phase of the liquefied petroleum gas into the fuel tank.

To obtain reliable ignition of the directly introduced fuel on the one hand and maximum liberty in designing the engine on the other hand, the proposal is put forward that the piston recess between opposite walls should essentially constitute an open channel of meander-shaped or S-shaped configuration in plan view, at least one end of the channel forming an inlet area into the recess, which starts at the piston rim.
