Abstract: In a method of and circuit for identifying and/or verifying the hardware and/or software of an appliance and of a data carrier, for example a smartcard, cooperating with the appliance, it is provided that a first unit (E1) for verifying the hardware and/or software of the appliance, in particular a Trusted Platform Module (TPM), and a second unit (E2) for verifying and/or identifying and authorizing the external data carrier, in particular a Secure Application Module (SAM), are coupled for direct data exchange via a communication interface (17) of the central arithmetic units (2, 10), in order to reduce or eliminate the possibility of attack or manipulation.

Abstract: A dichroic mirror configured to separate a first type of radiation in a first wavelength range having an upper boundary from a second type of radiation in a second wavelength range having a lower boundary greater than the upper boundary of the first wavelength. The mirror includes a substrate, and a stack having a reflective surface facing away from the substrate and a width that increases stepwise in a direction towards the substrate. The stack is formed by alternating layers of first and second materials on the substrate. The reflective surface has steps with a width greater than the upper boundary of the first wavelength and less than the lower boundary of the second wavelength.
Abstract: A composition is prepared by melt blending specific amounts of a polyamide, a flame retardant that includes brominated polystyrene, a polymeric flame retardant synergist, and a compatibilizing agent. The polymeric flame retardant synergist can be a poly(arylene ether), a poly(arylene ether)-polysiloxane block copolymer, or a mixture thereof. The composition is useful for molding automotive and electrical parts.

Abstract: Methods for fabrication of tapered magnetic poles with a non-magnetic front bump layer. A magnetic pole may have a tapered surface at or near an air bearing surface (ABS), wherein a thickness of the write pole increases in a direction away from the ABS. A non-magnetic front bump layer may be formed on the tapered surface of the magnetic pole and away from the ABS. The front bump layer may increase the separation distance between a shield layer and the magnetic pole near the tapered surface, thereby improving the performance of the write head.
