Abstract: A method is disclosed to detect a broad class of signals in Gaussian noise using higher order statistics. The method detects a number of different signal types. The signals may be in the base-band or the pass-band, single-carrier or multi-carrier, frequency hopping or non-hopping, broad-pulse or narrow-pulse etc. In a typical setting this method provides an error rate of 3% at a signal to noise ratio of 0 dB. This method gives the time frequency detection ratio which may be used to determine if the detected signal falls in Class Single-Carrier of Class Multi-Carrier. Additionally, this method may be used for a number of different applications such as multiple signal identification, finding the basis functions of the received signal.

Abstract: In a CW radar system for detecting motion behind a wall (12) involving modulation of the radar transmission, means (34) are provided to interrupt the CW wave when motion is detected and to use the same radar transmitter (30) to transmit a serial digital message to a remote monitoring receiver (34). The encoding can include a receiver wakeup message to turn on the receive only when motion has been detected. In one embodiment, a microprocessor (28) is used to detect when motion exists behind a wall and to provide a tailorable message to modulate the radar's transmitter in the period when the CW signal from the radar is turned off after the motion detector.

Abstract: An enhanced duplexer (1) which includes a combination of high dynamic range (HDR) amplifiers (11, 17) and a naovel signal cancellation circuit topology (15). Return signals from the circulator (3) are fed into the first HDR amplifier (11). A portion of the transmit signal is sampled with a directional coupler (7) and amplified with a second HDR amplifier (17) and then combined with the output of the first HDR amplifier (11) using a second directional coupler (13). The gain and phase of the second io amplifier (17) are adjusted so the leakage signals are canceled (19, 21) to enable a radar system to simultaneously transmit and receive signals to and from an antenna with increased sensitivity of operation.

Abstract: Whether or not the CW radar is utilized for through-the-wall detection, additional one or more sensors are used with the CW radar to confirm the motion detection result or to in fact turn on the CW radar once motion or the physical presence of an individual has been sensed, thereby to provide confirmation of a less-reliable sensor with the use of the more reliable CW radar. Thus, the addition of other sensors provides lower power consumption, lower false alarm rates and better discrimination and classification of moving objects.

Abstract: A trusted computer system that offers Linux® compatibility and supports contemporary hardware speeds. It is designed to require no porting of common applications which run on Linux, to be easy to develop for, and to allow the use of a wide variety of modern development tools. The system is further designed to meet or exceed the Common Criteria EAL-5 or higher rating through incorporation of required security features, as well as a very high level of assurance for handling data at a wide range of sensitivity (e.g., classification) levels in a wide range of operational environments. This is achieved through the implementation of a well-layered operating system which has been designed from the ground up to enforce security, but which also supports Linux operating system functions and methods.

Abstract: A method for fusion of image block adjustments for the generation of a ground control network constituting a Metric Information Network (MIN). Utilizing the subject. fusion algorithm it is possible to duplicate the results of an extremely large simultaneous image block adjustment by sequentially performing smaller image block adjustments on small overlapping areas of interest and taking the results to update a metric information network. Note, intermediate results for less than all the imagery provide usable updates to the metric information network. The result of the infusion of sequential image block adjustments into the metric information network is that one can obtain the accuracy provided by an extremely large single image block adjustment, and do so in manageable chunks or segments involving conventional computer resources.

Abstract: A broadband transmission line impedance transformer performs impedance transformation with improved frequency response and efficiency across a wide operational bandwidth. In particular, the bandwidth of a transmission line 2:1 impedance transformer may be significantly increased by adding an additional compensating capacitor as an internal component between interconnected transmission lines. This capacitor effectively improves low frequency response for a given length of transmission lines and decreases mismatch in an entire frequency range. The overall bandwidth ratio increases at least twice and mismatch decreases.

Abstract: A monolithically integrated light-activated thyristor in an n-p-n-p-n-p sequence consists of a four-layered thyristor structure and an embedded back-biased PN junction structure as a turn-off switching diode. The turn-off switching diode is formed through structured doping processes and/or depositions on a single semiconductor wafer so that it is integrated monolithically without any external device or semiconductor materials. The thyristor can be switching on and off optically by two discrete light beams illuminated on separated openings of electrodes on the top surface of a semiconductor body. The carrier injection of the turning on process is achieved by illuminating the bulk of the thyristor with a high level light through the first aperture over the cathode to create high density charge carriers serving as the gate current injection and to electrically short the emitter and drift layer.

Abstract: A multiuser detector system with correlation based pruning including a parameter estimation module adapted to receive complex signals, and to produce estimated signature waveforms for each of K co-channel interfering signals. Pre-processing the estimated signature waveforms using an S-matrix module and producing a more valid set of hypotheses, wherein the S-matrix module uses apriori knowledge of an unnormalized cross correlation matrix, and processing the more valid set of hypotheses for pruning with an M-algorithm in a multiuser detector module. An improvement to the M-algorithm in which the interference structure based on the signal correlation matrix used during the optimization process aids in selecting a better subset of hypotheses to test. This approach has the benefit of reducing computational complexity and improving performance over the existing M-algorithm.
