  • Patent number: 8671821
Abstract: A method of providing a defense against a shaped charge uses an outer and an inner armor layer provided with a medial space between these outer and inner armor layers. One or more defensive shaped charges are positioned in the medial space. If the outer armor layer is attacked by ordnance having an offensive shaped charge, one or more of the defensive shaped charges positioned in the medial space is detonated so as to degrade the effectiveness of the offensive shaped charge and prevent penetration of the inner armor layer.

  • Patent number: 8676234
Abstract: A tactical network includes a radio that provides communications and situational awareness for a given user. The radio includes a screen, a communications module for linking the user with a network server, a knowledge management (KM) module for receiving alerts from the server and the communications module, and a map application that displays menu options for the user and receives the alerts from the server through the KM module. A communications interface initiates communications with the network server through the communications module, and sends information to the server from the map application. A user location module sends data corresponding to the user's location and targets identified by the user to the communications module for forwarding to the network server, and provides data originating from the server to the map application to show the locations of other radio users, their availability to exchange messages, and any targets they identify.

  • Patent number: 8670721
Abstract: A WRAN discriminates between authentic incumbent and spurious/malicious signals by collaboratively sensing the frequency environment, classifying and fusing the sensed results, and categorizing each signal as valid or invalid. Embodiments categorize signals according to reports from at least two nodes, thereby increasing detection confidence and resisting denial-of-service attacks. A “voting-rule” can be applied whereby a signal is authentic only if it is detected by a specified percentage of the nodes. Some embodiments categorized signals by comparing sensed analog signal properties, such as amplitude, bandwidth, pulse width, mean, variance, modulation, standard deviation, moments, cumulants, and rise and fall times, with properties of known incumbents and/or known incumbent types.

  • Patent number: 8670033
Abstract: A compact momentum-balanced internal optical scanning mechanism is provided for a wide angle camera used in photo reconnaissance and the like, in which a large high resolution but not fully populated array is used to provide full scene coverage with high pixel densities, in which sharpness is maintained and in which the image can be scanned without vibration due to momentum compensation so that the image may be shifted on the focal plane array in such a manner that images focused on a dark portion of the array will move to an active portion of the array, with the sequential read out of the information concatenated into high resolution full scene image data.

  • Publication number: 20140067739
Abstract: A system and method of reducing or eliminating training for adaptive receiver and neural networks is disclosed. The adaptive filter or neural network is pre-training using simulation or empirically received data and a took-up table is created. Coefficient instantiation from the receiver for ail permutations of the key parameters of training data are stored along with the key parameters within the look-up table. After creating the look-up table, the key parameters of the signal to be decoded are estimated. The coefficient of filter or neural network for the estimated key parameters is obtained by accessing the loop-up table. The demodulated signal is produced by setting the filter or neural network coefficents to coefficient values obtained from the look-up table. For slow varying key parameters, the coefficients from the lookup table are occasionally replaced instead of implementing the adaptive filter or neural network.

  • Patent number: 8666206
Abstract: An asymmetric slotted waveguide and method for fabricating the same. The slotted waveguide is constructed in silicon-on-insulator using a Complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process. One or more wafers can be coated with a photo resist material using a photolithographic process in order to thereby bake the wafers via a post apply bake (PAB) process. An anti-reflective coating (TARC) can be further applied on the wafers and the wafers can be exposed on a scanner for the illumination conditions. After a post exposure bake (PEB), the wafers can be developed in a developer using a puddle develop process. Finally, the printed wafers can be processed using a shrink process to reduce the critical dimension (CD) of the slot and thereby achieve an enhanced asymmetric slotted waveguide that is capable of guiding the optical radiation in a wide range of optical modulation applications using an electro-optic polymer cladding.

  • Patent number: 8665421
Abstract: A laser-based infrared countermeasure (IRCM) system is disclosed. The IRCM system includes a set of receive optics, a dichroic filter, first and second detectors, a lens module and a laser. Receive optics are configured to receive optical information. The lens module reflects the optical information from the receive optics to the dichroic filter. The dichroic filter selectively splits the optical information to the first and second detectors. The first and second detectors, each of which is formed by a single-pixel detector, detects a potential missile threat from the optical information. Based on information collected by the first and second detectors, the laser sends laser beams to neutralize any missile threat.

  • Patent number: 8664602
Abstract: An apparatus and method for a wafer level vacuum package uncooled microbolometer focal plane array (FPA) on a wafer level substrate with a thin film getter-reflector (G-R). The G-R removes gas from the vacuum package and is reflective in the frequency band of the FPA. Sensor pixels are supported about a quarter-wavelength above the G-R which is within the perimeter of the imaging array. The package is evacuated through a single aperture, and vacuum is maintained for the lifetime of the FPA. Imaging sensor size is reduced while maintaining resolution by reducing non-imaging area.

  • Patent number: 8664807
Abstract: A system and method for distributing the power of an electromagnetic signal is presented. In one embodiment, a power distribution cavity includes, a planar cavity, input ports and output ports. The planar cavity is formed with a metallic sheet in the shape of a star pattern with a plurality of elongated star arms extending from a round center portion of the metallic sheet. The input ports are attached to the round center portion of the metallic sheet for receiving an input signal. The signals entering the cavity from the input ports creating independent resonant modes within the cavity that combine producing a tapered aperture distribution of signals at the output ports. The output ports are attached near to the outward ends of the elongated star arms. The planar cavity is thus configured to propagate electromagnetic fields at the output ports that were excited within the cavity by the input ports.
