  • Patent number: 8599080
Abstract: An extremely thin embedded antenna for an armor-carrying vehicle utilizes a dipole driven element to the inside of the armor plate and a parasitically-driven dipole element on top of the armor plate, with the parasitic element providing appropriate forward gain and antenna matching characteristics such that there need be no aperturing of the armor plate in order to feed the antenna. In one embodiment, the bowtie antenna elements are elongated, extended or expanded by outboard antenna sections which are spaced from the distal ends of the corresponding bowties, with a meanderline choke bridging the gap between a bowtie element and its extended portion.

  • Patent number: 8587467
Abstract: A method for determining locations of a moving emitter is disclosed. Initially, a set of emitter pulses is collected when a collector platform moves over a collection baseline. In addition, the time and location of the collection platform are recorded each time an emitter pulse is collected. A set of time-tagged pulse time-of-arrival (TOA) values is then generated by associating a recorded collection time value to each of the collected emitter pulses. Next, a set of time-tagged and position-tagged pulse TOA values is generated by associating a recorded collection location value to each of the time-tagged pulse TOA values. Finally, a set of location values and velocity values of a moving emitter is estimated based on the time-tagged and position-tagged pulse TOA values.

  • Patent number: 8584585
Abstract: An inertial delay mechanism for use in an explosive projectile is provided. The delay mechanism consists of an inertial delay fuse that is precise, doesn't require sensitive primary explosives and doesn't utilize electronic circuitry. The inertial delay fuse includes a free sliding charge element that strikes an anvil located opposite to the sliding charge element. A delay gap is provided between the sliding charge element and the anvil. Upon impact, the sliding charge element slides forward and impacts the anvil, thereby inducing a shock wave in an initiator charge that subsequently results in detonation of main charges. The design is mechanically simple and robust enough to withstand severe g-loading forces that occur during firing and penetration of a projectile.

  • Patent number: 8583714
Abstract: A DDS system is disclosed that is configured to provide a variable clock delay that allows timing of data coming out of the ROM to be adjusted. In one example case, a DDS system is provided that includes a ROM for storing phase-to-amplitude conversion data and generating digital amplitude values corresponding to respective digital phase values, and delay circuitry for adjusting timing of data output by the ROM to compensate for propagation delay of the DDS system. The delay circuitry may include, for instance, delay elements that can be selected alone or in combination to adjust the timing. The timing can be adjusted, for example, by adjusting delay of a clock signal that clocks one or more ROM pipeline registers. The system may include a phase accumulator and DAC, and adjusting the timing may include adjusting delay of a clock signal that clocks one or more DAC pipeline registers.

  • Patent number: 8581228
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for improving the quantum efficiency of photocathode devices. The techniques allow for an increase in the optical thickness of the photocathode device, while simultaneously allowing for an increase in the probability of electron escape into the vacuum of the device. The techniques are particularly useful in detector and imaging. In one embodiment, a photocathode device is provided that has an array of corner cubes fabricated in a surface of the photocathode. The corner cube array is made of the same material as the photocathode layer. The device may be, for example, a detector or image intensifier that operates in the UV, visible, and IR light spectrums, and may further include a gain medium, anode, and readout device. Techniques for forming the device are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8583585
Abstract: Disclosed is a trust management system for decision fusion in a network. The trust management system includes a detection subsystem having a plurality of sensors, and a plurality of channels. Each sensor of the plurality of sensors detects one of an occurrence and a non-occurrence of an event in the network. The trust management system further includes a fusion subsystem communicably coupled to the detection subsystem through the plurality of channels for receiving a decision of the each sensor and iteratively assigning a pre-determined weightage. The fusion subsystem ascertains a summation of respective decisions of the plurality of sensors and compares the weighted summation with a corresponding decision of the each sensor. The fusion subsystem further updates the assigned pre-determined weightage and determines the presence of the each sensor being one of a compromised sensor and a non-compromised sensor. Further disclosed is a method for decision fusion in a network.

  • Patent number: 8576108
Abstract: In one embodiment, a passive expendable decoy for an aircraft is provided by ejecting passive radiators from the aircraft along a transmission line trailing from the aircraft and excited by a jammer on the aircraft, such that the radiators accelerate under aerodynamic drag forces to the end of the transmission line and couple energy from the transmission line to free space. This provides angular deception to a tracking radar or homing missile since the point of radiation along the transmission line is determined by the instantaneous position of the expendable radiating element.

  • Patent number: 8578463
Abstract: A system and method for allowing for distributed interaction in a computing scenario is presented. The system is powered by SandTable software. First and Second items are respectively displayed on interactive screens of first and second surface computers. A first token is configured to be placed on the interactive screen of one of the computers and that computers reads its credentials. The SandTable software determines a first access level of the first token based on the credentials of the first token when it is placed on the surface computer. The first surface computer displays an image of an add item symbol when the first token is authenticated as a valid token. The SandTable software is configured to detect when the add item symbol is selected and to generate a menu of new items. SandTable creates a new item based on the new item selected from the menu.

  • Publication number: 20130285845
Abstract: A system and method for mitigating Analog to Digital (A/D) clipping is disclosed. The mean and variance of analog input data are tracked and the bits of A/D are dynamically reassigned to keep the input signal within their range. The quantization levels of A/D are dynamically re-mapped to avoid changes in sensitivity of sensor system. The method is based on random walk statistic and keeps the sensitivity of the sensor system constant. Also the system and method provides a way to mitigate A/D clipping that avoids changing the sensitivity by dynamically re-mapping the quantization levels of the A/D, keeping the sensitivity of the system constant.

  • Publication number: 20130284902
Abstract: An input clamping circuit of a photo detector preamplifier is activated when an input transistor is turned off by an input overload, and the drain voltage of the input transistor is pulled toward ground by a current source. Even with extreme overloads, the operating conditions (Vgs and Id) of the input transistor remain within normal range. During normal operation, the clamping circuit is biased completely off, and has essentially no effect on circuit performance. Since the input FET itself, rather than a separate device, detects the onset of an overload, significantly improved clamping performance is realized without adding additional circuit complexity. The input transistor can be a FET. The preamplifier can be a cascode preamplifier. The clamping circuit can include a clamping FET or other clamping transistor gated by the input transistor drain. In embodiments, the clamping circuit increases current requirements of the preamplifier by no more than 25%.

  • Patent number: 8571154
Abstract: An adaptive time delay control system is provided for matching the propagation time delay between two samples of a signal traveling through two independent paths so that they can be coherently combined for additional signal processing functions such as cosite interference cancellers, adaptive interference cancellers and adaptive beam formers. The adaptive time delay control system and associated method advantageously provide improved continuous matching of the two channels over a wider adjustment range while preserving both convergence speed over the full range and minimum jitter upon convergence by using composite autocorrelation functions to control (adjusting) a matching time delay in one channel.
