  • Publication number: 20110097957
Abstract: We disclose a system for preparing antimicrobial fabrics, coated with metal oxide nanoparticles by means of a novel sonochemical method. These antibacterial fabrics are widely used for production of outdoor clothes, under-wear, bed-linen, bandages, etc. The deposition of metal oxides known to possess antimicrobial activity, namely ZnO, MgO and CuO, can significantly extent the applications of textile fabrics and prolong the period of their use. By means of the novel sonochemical method disclosed here, uniform deposition of metal oxide nanoparticles is achieved simply.

  • Publication number: 20100200044
Abstract: A solar energy conversion system is presented. The system comprises at least one waveguide arrangement having at least one light input respectively. The waveguide arrangement comprises a core unit for passing input solar radiation therethrough and a cladding material arrangement interfacing with the core therealong. The cladding material arrangement is configured as an array of spaced-apart solar cells arranged along the core unit and having different optical absorption ranges, such that an interface between the waveguide core and the cladding arrangement spectrally splits the photons of the input solar radiation by causing the photons of different wavelengths, while passing through the core unit, to be successively absorbed and thereby converted into electricity by the successive solar cells of said array.

  • Patent number: 7652191
Abstract: The invention relates to production of maladapted animals characterized by PTSD like behavior from a population by behavioral conditioning. The method includes determining a baseline behavioral level for individual under defined conditions; exposing each individual animal to trauma event and further determining a posttraumatic event behavioral level; re-exposing each individual to a trauma related event and further determining an individual post trauma related event behavioral level and evaluating the individual post trauma related event behavioral level for each individual animal with respect to a baseline value according to a predetermined rule in order to determine which individuals are maladapted animals characterized by PTSD like behavior. Use of the method for assaying efficacy of PTSD treatment is within the scope of the invention, as are animals produced by claimed methods. Once the method is established, biological parameters may be employed in addition to, or in lieu of behavioral parameters.

  • Publication number: 20090231652
Abstract: A device for use in optical signal control is presented. The device comprises an amplification waveguide, including a pumpable medium, and a reference and a control inputs and an output selectively allowing transmission of light respectively into and out of said amplification waveguide. The reference input, the amplification waveguide and the output define together a transmission scheme for reference light through the pumpable medium. The control input and the amplification waveguide define a depletion scheme for the pumpable medium and control light. The device thus allows for controlling an output signal, formed by the transmission of the reference light, by controllable depletion of the pumpable medium.

  • Publication number: 20090021875
Abstract: A current limiting device (30, 40, 50, 60) comprising for each phase of an AC supply a closed magnetic core (31) of reduced volume and mass having first and second pairs of opposing limbs (32a, 32b; 33a, 33b), and at least one AC coil (35a, 35b) enclosing opposing limbs (33a, 33b) of the magnetic core (31) and adapted for series connection with a load. A superconducting DC bias coil (34) encloses a limb) (32a, 32b) of the magnetic core (31) for saturating each of the opposing limbs (33a, 33b) in opposite directions by the bias coil (34). Under fault conditions, the AC flux in at least one limb counteracts the DC bias flux, bringing the limb out of saturation. Preferably, current is reduced in the DC bias coils thus bringing both opposing limbs of the core out of saturation.
