Abstract: In a process for esterifying (meth)acrylic acid with an alkanol in the presence of an acidic esterification catalyst, in which unconverted starting compounds and the (meth)acrylates to be formed are separated off by distillation and an oxyester-containing bottom product is formed, the bottom product is separated off and is heated in the presence of an acid to 150-250.degree. C. and the pressure is adjusted so that the cleavage products formed under the abovementioned conditions from the oxyesters contained in the bottom product evaporate directly. The process can be carried out in the presence of molecular oxygen. Mineral acids, for example sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid and/or alkanesulfonic or arylsulfonic acids, for example methanesulfonic acid or p-toluenesulfonic acid, can be added to the bottom product.

Abstract: It has been found that non-chlorinated pentafluoropropane blowing agents may be used alone or in combination with water in flexible integral skin foams. For example, foams prepared using 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (HFA-245fa) alone or in combination with water exhibit physical characteristics such as resistance to abrasion and cracking on flex comparable to conventional chlorinated fluorocarbon blown foams. The foams of the present invention are suitable for use in many applications including, for example, shoe soles.

Abstract: The invention relates to coating materials containing a water-dilutable polyurethane resin as binder. The resin can be prepared by reacting some of the free isocyanate groups present in a prepolymer (I) which contains acidic groups and isocyanate groups with a blocking agent so as to form a prepolymer (II) which contains blocked isocyanate groups, the blocking agent being employed in a quantity such that the prepolymer (II) still contains on average at least one free isocyanate group per molecule, reacting the prepolymer (II) with a compound which contains at least one primary or secondary amino group and at least one hydroxyl group in the molecule, to give a polyurethane resin, and finally converting the polyurethane resin prepared in this way into a water-dilutable polyurethane resin by at least partial neutralization of the acidic groups.
