Abstract: A process for the preparation of multicoat coatings in which a pigmented aqueous basecoat composition is used which comprises a water-thinnable emulsion polymer as the film-former. The water-thinnable emulsion polymer is prepared in a two-stage emulsion polymerization. In the second stage a mixture of monomers is polymerized in the presence of the polymer prepared in the first stage which by an exclusive polymerization gives rise to a polymer having a glass transition temperature (T.sub.G2) of -60.degree. to +20.degree. C. The hydroxyl value of the emulsion polymer is between 2 and 100.

Abstract: A sterically-hindered monomer is used to make a polymer which in turn is useful in coating compositions. The resulting residue of the sterically-hindered monomer is present in the polymer, as well as in a cured coating (preferably an automotive coating) produced using a coating composition having the polymer therein. The presence of the residue of the sterically-hindered monomer imparts in the cured coating a resistance to environmental etching.

Abstract: A cassette with a recording medium, in particular a magnetic recording medium, is designed with a displaceable identification part which can be pushed into the cassette housing. For this purpose, a web is provided behind a cassette opening in a cassette wall, which web runs at an angle with respect to the cassette wall. It is also possible to provide a web which is approximately parallel to the cassette wall, and the identification part, designed as a slide, is provided with a front beveling, in the opening sliding direction, in order to push the slide partially past the edge of the cassette wall located in the opening direction. The cassette can be used for recording/reproducing signals of any type, and any functions of the associated cassette apparatus can be controlled indirectly by the positionally displaceable identification part.

Abstract: The subject matter of the present invention is a multicoat metallic refinishing process in which a coating material is first applied to the prepared area of damage and to the adjacent regions of original finish. A metallic basecoat is applied to this first coating in such a way that the basecoat hides the area of damage and tapers off on the coating. A clearcoat is then applied to the basecoat and, if appropriate, also to the adjacent regions of the original finish. In the process an aqueous metallic basecoat and an aqueous coating material containinga) 5 to 50% by weight, based on the total weight of the coating material, of at least one water-thinnable or water-dispersible film-forming material,b) 0 to 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the coating material, of at least one organic solventc) conventional auxiliaries and additives, if appropriate, are applied to the prepared area of damage, the dry film thickness of this aqueous coating material being between 2 and 50 .mu.
Abstract: A process for producing multicomponent fibers provides a dispersion of a particulate additive or chemical compound in a nonaqueous liquid carrier; forms a blend of a first thermoplastic polymer and the dispersion by injecting the dispersion into an extruder which is part of a fiber extrusion apparatus and which extruder is extruding the first thermoplastic polymer thereby forming a blend of the additive in the first thermoplastic polymer; provides a second thermoplastic polymer to the fiber extrusion apparatus; in the fiber extrusion apparatus, arranges the blend and the second thermoplastic polymer in a preselected, mutually separated relative arrangement; directs the arrangement of blend and the second thermoplastic polymer to a spinneret which is a part of the fiber extrusion apparatus while maintaining the preselected, mutually separated relative arrangement; extrudes the directed arrangement of the blend and the second molten polymer through the spinneret to form multicomponent fibers; and solidifies the
