Abstract: The novel compounds of the general formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radicals which are free of groups which impart water solubility,X, Y and Z are each chlorine, bromine or a radical OR.sup.3 andR.sup.3 is unsubstituted or substituted phenyl, naphthyl or anthryl,are very useful as fluorescent dyes in organic material.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of polyester polyols having an acid number of less than 1, a hydroxyl number of approximately 20 to about 400, and having a functionality of efficaciously 2 to 3, wherein polycarboxylic acids and/or their anhydrides and multivalent alcohols are polycondensed, preferably in the absence of common esterification catalysts, at temperatures of from about 150.degree. to 250.degree. C., optionally under reduced pressure, up to an acid number of from 20 to 5. The resulting polycondensate is then oxyalkylated per carboxyl group using from 1 to 5 moles of an alkylene oxide, for example 1,2-propylene oxide and/or preferably ethylene oxide, in the presence of at least one tertiary amine catalyst from the group consisting of N-methylimidazole, diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane, diazabicyclo[5,4,0]undec-7-ene and pentamethyldiethylenetriamine and mixtures thereof, in a quantity of from about 0.001 to 1.0 weight percent based on the weight of the polycondensate, at temperatures from about 100.degree.

Abstract: Ethene homopolymers and ethene copolymers with minor amounts of higher .alpha.-monoolefins are prepared by polymerization of the monomer or monomers using a chromium trioxide catalyst which is obtained by a method in which (1) a finely divided, porous, silicate carrier is laden with (2) chromium trioxide or a chromium compound which is converted to chromium trioxide under the conditions of stage (3), and then (3) the intermediate resulting from stage (2) is heated in an oxygen-containing gas stream. In this process, a cocatalyst which consists of a lithiumalkyl used in addition to the chromium trioxide catalyst.

Abstract: A molecular weight controller having particular application in the polymerization of a lactam, i.e., epsiloncaprolactam, to a polyamide, i.e., poly(epsiloncaprolactam). The molecular weight controller comprises a primary monofunctional amine, i.e., benzylamine, a primary monofunctional acid, i.e., acetic acid, and a salified aminoacid containing an aromatic, a cyclohexane, or cyclopentane moiety, i.e., 4-(aminomethylbenzoic acid salified with p-toluenesulfonic acid. The resulting polyamide has a reduced water extractable content.
Abstract: Nonaqueous polymer dispersions are obtainable by polymerization of esters (A) of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and/or ethylacrylic acid with C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alcohols in an organic solvent or a mixture of organic solvents in which the polymers formed are insoluble, and in the presence of copolymers (B) having a molecular weight of from 500 to 20,000 and obtainable by bulk or solution polymerization of monoolefinically unsaturated monomers at from 180.degree. to 400.degree. C. and from 1 to 200 bar, and the said dispersions are used for the production of finishes, coating materials and adhesives.

Abstract: Water-disperable carotenoid formulations are prepared by dissolving the carotenoid in a carrier oil at elevated temperatures until saturation is achieved, rapidly emulsifying the solution with an aqueous protective colloid and then removing the water, by a process in which the protective colloid used is a mixture of an ester of a long-chain fatty acid with ascorbic acid and a starch product which is soluble in cold water.The produce can be used for coloring foods and is stable to creaming.
