Abstract: Completely aromatic polyesters which form a liquid-crystalline filament-forming melt at below 300.degree. C. and essentially consist of(a) from 3 to 15 mol % of units derived from hydroquinone,(b) from 5 to 35 mol % of units derived from 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene,(c) molar amounts, equivalent to the sum of (a) and (b), of units derived from terephthalic acid, and(d) from 10 to 70 mol % of units derived from p-hydroxybenzoic acid,and their preparation.
Abstract: A synthetic resin which contains quaternary ammonium groups, and its preparation.The water-dilutable synthetic resin which contains quaternary ammonium groups and furthermore contains one or more basic secondary and/or tertiary amino groups per quaternary ammonium group is an adduct of(A) a quaternary ammonium salt which is obtained by reacting(a) an organic compound containing two or more basic amino groups per molecule, one of which is a primary group and is protected as a ketimine by prior reaction with a ketone, and the remaining groups are tertiary groups, with(b) an organic or inorganic acid and(c) a monoepoxide compound, and, if necessary, then eliminating the ketone hydrolytically,(B) a resin which contains on average from 1.5 to 3.0 epoxide groups per molecule, and, if required,(C) one or more monofunctional organic compounds whose functional group is capable of undergoing an addition reaction with an epoxide.

C. and the caprolactam formed is isolated.

Abstract: A process for the batchwise preparation of polyoxybutylene polyoxyalkylene glycols by copolymerizing tetrahydrofuran with a 1,2-alkylene oxide in the presence of compounds containing reactive hydrogen, the polymerization being carried out over a bleaching earth catalyst or zeolite catalyst, and the 1,2-alkylene oxide being fed to the reaction mixture in such manner that the concentration of the 1,2-alkylene oxide in the reaction mixture is kept at below 2% by weight during the polymerization.
Abstract: An aqueous glyoxal solution is decolorized by a process in which the said solution is passed over granulated active carbon which is arranged in a fixed bed and whose differential pore radius distribution has a maximum of from 10 to 100 A, the Peclet number being from 500 to 5000, the decolorized glyoxal solution is discharged, the active carbon bed is then regenerated by treating it with an aqueous solution of an alkaline agent and then with an aqueous acid, and further glyoxal solution to be decolorized is passed over the active carbon regenerated in this manner.

Abstract: Finely divided, pulverulent carotenoid preparations in which the carotenoid essentially has a particle size of less than 0.5 micron are prepared by a process in which a carotenoid is dissolved in a volatile, water-miscible, organic solvent at from 50.degree. to 240.degree. C., under atmospheric or superatmospheric pressure, in less than 10 seconds, the carotenoid is precipitated in colloidal disperse form from the resulting molecular disperse solution by rapid mixing with milk at from 0.degree. to 50.degree. C., and the resulting dispersion is freed from the solvent and the dispersing medium in a conventional manner.
