Abstract: Ethane polymers are prepared by Phillips catalysis using (1) a supported catalyst which is laden with chromium, phosphorus and titanium and (2) a cocatalyst, (1) being obtained by a procedure in which (1.1) a catalyst intermediate laden with chromium, phosphorus and titanium is prepared from a silicate carrier, a selected chromium compound, a selected phosphorus compound and a selected titanium compound, and (1.2) the catalyst intermediate is then heated in an oxygen-containing gas stream. In the process, the supported catalyst (1) used is one which is obtained (using specific methods and substances in each case) by a procedure in which (1.1) in a first stage (1.1.1), a suspension is first prepared from (1.1.1.1) a finely divided silicate carrier and (1.1.1.2) an inert organic solvent, (1.1.2) a suspension is then prepared from (1.1.2.1) a finely divided chromium trioxide and (1.1.2.2) an inert organic solvent, (1.1.3) thereafter (1.1.3.1) the suspension resulting from (1.1.2) is combined with (1.1.3.

Abstract: Non-tacky, smooth, structureless surfaces of photopolymer relief printing plates for flexographic printing, whose relief layers are prepared in a conventional manner by exposing the photopolymerizable relief-forming layers of flexographic printing plates imagewise to actinic light and washing out the unpolymerized, unexposed areas with a suitable solvent, are produced by a process in which the flexographic printing plates are after-treated with a liquid medium which contains elemental bromine or is capable of forming elemental bromine, and then washed with a neutralization bath, one or more paraffinsulfonates, fatty alcohol ethersulfates or alkyl phosphates or a cationic or anionic surfactant possessing one or more perfluorinated carbon chains being employed in the bromine-containing, liquid medium. The relief printing plates obtained according to the invention are used for flexographic printing.
Abstract: An improved coating composition containing chlorinated polyolefin to provide superior orientation of metallic pigment flakes in the coating. The invention is particularly useful in the pigmented base coat of a base coat-clear coat coating since it permits the use of a thinner base coat which, because of the improved orientation of the metallic pigment flakes, provides superior hiding or masking of the coated substrate. The coating composition comprises a solvent, a film forming resin selected from the group consisting of acrylic, alkyd, polyester and polyurethane resins, a uniformly dispersed pigment and a chlorinated polyolefin.
Abstract: In dry film resists possessing a solid photopolymerizable resist layer, which is applied on a temporary base and can be developed with aqueous, in particular aqueous alkaline, media, and, if required, a cover sheet on the resist layer, the said resist layer is built from a homogeneous mixture of (a) not less than 40% by weight of one or more oligomers which contain free carboxyl groups and more than two acryloyl and/or methacryloyl groups and are soluble or dispersible in aqueous alkaline solutions, (b) from 1 to 35% by weight of one or more film-forming compatible polymers which are soluble in aqueous media, (c) from 1 to 30% by weight of one or more compatible photopolymerizable monomers, (d) from 0.001 to 10% by weight of one or more photoinitiators and (e) from 0 to 30% by weight of further additives and/or assistants. Resist images are produced on a substrate by a process employing photopolymerizable resist layers of the type stated above.
