Abstract: A synthetic resin which carries basic nitrogen groups and can be diluted with water as a result of protonation with an acid can be obtained by reacting an epoxy resin, having a mean molecular weight M.sub.n of from 300 to 6,000 and containing on average from 1.5 to 3.0 epoxide groups per molecule, with a diketimine of a primary diamine and, if appropriate, a secondary amine, which may additionally contain a tertiary amino group, a ketimine of a primary monoamine and/or a ketimine of a primary/tertiary diamine. These resins are useful as binders for coating agents, in particular for the cathodic electrocoating of electrically conductive substrates.

Abstract: A tape cassette, in particular a video cassette, comprises two flanged reels and, between the flanges of each reel, a spring member as a biassing means to prevent the tape from slipping off the roll or folding over. The spring members can be attached to the side walls or rear wall of the housing, and their free ends constantly bear against the peripheries of the tape rolls. In specific embodiment the spring member advantageously includes the braking spring for a reel-braking device. By using a conductive material on one or both sides of the spring member and appropriately arranging the spring member relative to a tape guide element or to an element grounded on the tape recorder, it is possible to directly prevent tape loop formation, which is a cause of tape slippage and folding-over. Moreover, tape winding and unwinding are improved.

Abstract: Polystyrene beads having antistatic properties are prepared by adding the antistatic compounds to the beads during the pre-expansion step. The beads may then be employed to prepared molded products without any further treatment with antistatic agents.
Abstract: An electrophotographic recording material consists of (A) an electrically conductive base and (B) a photoconductor layer containing (a) a polymeric binder, which either is itself capable of transporting charge carriers or contains charge carrier-transporting compounds, and (b) sensitizers, with or without (c) other additives conventionally used in photoconductor layers.Compounds (c), used according to the invention are compounds of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1 is H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl, R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl, Hal is Cl or Br and n is an integer from 2 to 6. The compounds (IV) are present as a molecular-disperse solution in the polymer matrix. The recording materials are highly photosensitive over the entire visible range of light, and are therefore very useful for reprographic purposes.

Abstract: Electrophotographic recording materials which comprise an electrically conductive base, charge carrier-producing compounds or sensitizers, charge carrier-transporting compounds and added metal-1,3-diketone complexes and possess high photosensitivity and low conductivity in the dark are used for reprographic purposes and for the production of electrophotographic printing plates, in particular offset printing plates.
Abstract: A resist film comprises a dimensionally stable base (B), which is transparent to actinic light in the wavelength range from 300 to 420 nm, and a mask-forming layer (ML) which is sensitive to heat radiation and contains a thermochromic system which, when irradiated with an IR laser having a wavelength greater than 1.00 .mu.m, undergoes an irreversible change in its absorption spectrum in the wavelength range from 300 to 420 nm so that the optical density of the mask-forming layer (ML) in this wavelength range changes by not less than 1.3 units. The base of the resist film can also be applied onto the photosensitive relief-forming layer (RL) of a recording material to give a multilayer image-recording material. Imagewise irradiation with heat, for example using an IR laser, produces, in the mask-forming layer (ML) of the resist film, a UV photomask which is very useful for exposing photosensitive recording materials.
Abstract: The invention relates to rigid polyurethane foams prepared by reacting a polyether polyol other than one derived from an alkanolamine, an alkylene oxide adduct of an alkanolamine, catalyst and blowing agent, and an organic polyisocyanate. The compositions are useful as insulation.
Abstract: The instant invention relates to a rubber lubricant composition characterized by complete wetting of the elastomer surface both before and after vulcanization which gives a matte finish on cooling down that remains soft and does not flake off. This comprises (1) polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene block copolymer having a molecular weight of the polyoxypropylene hydrophobe of about 2500 to 4000 and containing 20 to 80 percent oxyethylene groups and (2) an oxyethylated oxypropylated higher alcohol.

Abstract: Modified benzyl ether-containing resole polyols derived from a phenolic component, a non-aqueous aldehyde, and a halogen-containing aliphatic hydroxyl component are prepared using a metal derivative as a catalyst. These polyols react with organic polyisocyanates to yield closed cell, low friability, low combustibility, rigid polyurethane foams without the need for post curing at elevated temperature. They are also useful in the preparation of modified rigid polyisocyanurate foams.
Abstract: CO.sub.2 and/or H.sub.2 S are removed from gases which contain CO.sub.2 and/or H.sub.2 S by a process in which the said gas is treated, in an absorption stage at from 40.degree. to 100.degree. C., with an aqueous absorption liquid containing from 20 to 70% by weight of methyldiethanolamine, the treated gas is taken off at the top of the absorption stage, the aqueous absorption liquid laden with CO.sub.2 and/or H.sub.

Abstract: The invention relates to binders for cathodically depositable coating compositions for the electrocoating lacquering process using cationic synthetic resins, which binders have been obtained by polymerizing (A) 5 to 95% by weight of ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers in the presence of (B) 95 to 5% by weight of a cationic synthetic resin in an aqueous phase, the total amount of the components (A) and (B) being 100%. Esters of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid are preferable for use as component (A). The invention also relates to a process for preparing the binders and to their use for cathodically depositable electrocoating lacquers.

Abstract: The invention comprises a device and method for collecting floating immiscible liquids from flowing channels such as collection of oil from the surface of a water stream, such as an effluent stream from a factory by moving an inlet opening of the device in and out of the liquid. A preferred device employs a changing center of gravity to rotate the inlet opening and accomplish collection. With such a device a relatively large inlet opening may be employed whereby the lower edge of the opening may be adjusted just below the liquid surface in order to have only the desired portion of the surface flow into the device. The lower edge of the opening then moves up above the surface while the liquid which flowed into the device is being pumped out, thereby blocking the entrance of further liquid into the device and preventing further movement of the upper surface of the stream during pumping.
