Abstract: Hydroxylammonium salts are manufactured by a process comprising the catalytic reduction of nitric oxide with hydrogen in a dilute aqueous mineral acid in the presence of a suspended platinum catalyst at an elevated temperature, wherein the reaction is carried out in vessels of which the walls consist of conventional copper-containing austenitic chromium-nickel steels which contain from 16 to 28% by weight of chromium, from 32 to 50% by weight of nickel, from 1 to 4% by weight of molybdenum, up to 4% by weight of copper and at most 0.1% by weight of carbon and which in addition contain an amount of titanium which is at least 5 times the amount of carbon but is not more than 1% by weight, or an amount of niobium or tantalum which is at least 8 times the amount of carbon but is not more than 1.5% by weight.

Abstract: Dyes of the formula ##STR1## where F is an (m+n)-valent radical of a quinophthalone, dioxazine, indigo, quinacridone, triphenylmethane or rhodamine dye, M.sup..sym. is H.sup..sym. or one equivalent of a metal cation, m is 0, 1 or 2 and n is 1, 2, 3 or 4, and their salts, are very useful for dyeing and printing paper. If they are used for wet-end dyeing, the waste water is virtually colorless. The colorations obtained exhibit good lightfastness and good bleeding fastness.
Abstract: Trimethyl-p-benzoquinone of the formula I ##STR1## is prepared by a process wherein A. 2,5,6-trimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-one or 2,3,6-trimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-one is reacted with air or oxygen at from 0.degree. to 150.degree. C. in a virtually anhydrous low molecular weight alkanol in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper(I) oxide or copper(II) oxide and in the presence of from 1 to 10 moles of a hydrogen halide gas per mole of trimethylcyclohexenone, and thereafterB. the reaction mixture, which essentially contains 2,3,6-trimethylphenol and/or 4-halo-2,3,6-trimethylphenol, is mixed with an alkali metal alcoholate in an amount such that a sample, when moistened with water, has a pH of from 3 to 6, and is then reacted with air, pure oxygen or tert.-butyl hydroperoxide at from 0.degree. to 150.degree. C.
Abstract: Aromatic azomethines are prepared by reacting anilines with formaldehyde and then removing the greater part of the water by distillation, low-boiling alcohols, in certain amounts, being present during the distillation and, if desired, during the reaction or during a part thereof.The aromatic azomethines obtainable by the novel process are valuable starting materials for the preparation of herbicides, especially pre-emergence herbicides and post-emergence herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, bacteriostatic agents, fungistatic agents and vulcanization accelerators.

Abstract: The invention relates to foam stabilized compositions containing (a) a high foaming nonionic surfactant which is a block copolymer that is an alkylene oxide adduct of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, or diethylene glycol, and (b) a foam-stabilizing amount of an amine oxide derived from a fatty alcohol which has been oxyethylated to the extent that ethylene oxide units account for approximately 50 to 75 weight percent of the molecular weight of the fatty alcohol-ethylene oxide adduct. The compositions are useful in the formulation of various products in which foam stability is needed, such as hand detergent bars, hair shampoos, rug shampoos, hand dishwashing detergents, etc..
Abstract: Stable, fluid formulations contain (a) finely divided iron cyano complexes, iron-III oxides or iron-III oxide hydrates, (b) one or more C.sub.6 -C.sub.18 -alkylbenzenesulfonic acid, (c) one or more compounds which are obtained by Mannich condensation from 2-hydroxynaphthalene, which may or may not contain 1 or 2 additional .beta.-hydroxyl groups, formaldehyde and primary or secondary aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic monoamines, diamines, triamines or polyamines or 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic compounds, and which contain from 1 to 6 .beta.-hydroxynaphthyl groups, and (d) one or more organic liquids, the ratio of (b):(c) being from 1:8 to 2:1 and the amount of (c) being from 10 to 20% by weight, based on (a).The formulations are fluid or pourable at pigment concentrations of from 20 to 55% by weight and give very deeply colored, very glossy finishes.
