Abstract: A process for continuously testing the thickness of the enamel coating of electric wires, in which the wire, after enamelling, passes between a fixed and a movable measuring roller. The wire is wrapped around the fixed measuring roller such that its wrap-around angle has a value between 0 and 15 degrees and the fixed and movable measuring rollers are positioned relative to each other such that their respective planes of symmetry are vertically displaced by a value between 0.5 and 2 mm. Using the process according to the invention, the thickness of enamel applied to the wire can be kept constant to about 0.5 .mu.m.
Abstract: A positioning device for a write/read magnetic head in a magnetic disc data storage device comprising a motor-driven guide disc, with a spiral-shaped guide wall arranged at right angles to the plane of the guide disc, for a guide element in the form of a ball-bearing on a magnetic-head support. Due to the greatly reduced friction it is possible to achieve highly accurate positioning within an extremely brief period of time and with an extremely low power requirement. This device may be used to position the heads in magnetic disc systems for the recording and/or reproduction of analog or digital signals.

Abstract: Polyurethane foams are prepared employing as the polyisocyanate ingredient a highly stable liquid 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) containing MDI-carbodiimide adducts prepared by heating MDI at a temperature of from 180.degree. C. to 250.degree. C. for a period of from one hour to ten hours in the presence of tris(chloromethyl)phosphine oxide and thereafter equilibrating the adduct formation. Equilibration can occur by any of several methods, i.e., by cooling the composition to a temperature of from 60.degree. C. to 90.degree. C. within twenty minutes, maintaining the composition at this temperature for a period of from one hour to four hours and thereafter cooling the composition to room temperature or by cooling the composition to a temperature less than 100.degree. C. within twenty minutes, further cooling to room temperature, and maintaining the composition at room temperature for one week to two weeks.

Abstract: Dye formulations for dyeing or printing cellulose or cellulosic fibrous material which in addition to the usual dispersing agents, water retention agents, disinfectants and water contain dyes devoid of sulfonic acid groups and of the general formula: ##STR1## in which A is an anthraquinonyl, anthrapyrimidone or anthrapyrimidine radical which may bear substituents; X is hydrogen or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical; B is hydrogen or an aliphatic radical; B.sup.1 is an aliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical or the group ##STR2## is a five-membered, six-membered or seven-membered heterocyclic ring; and n is 1 or 2. Dyeings and prints having very good fastness properties and particularly very good fastness to wet treatments and crocking are obtained on cellulose. The dyes contained in the formulations are fixed on swollen cellulosic fibers by heating.

Abstract: Stable, liquid polyisocyanate compositions are prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate or a mixture of polyisocyanates and halogen-containing carboxylic acids. The polyisocyanates hereof are used to prepare polyurethanes, polyisocyanurates, poly(isocyanurate-urethane) and the like. These isocyanates can be used in foam formation, films, fibers, coating solutions, elastomers and the like.
Abstract: 2-Halomethyl-, 2-alkoxymethyl- and 2-acyloxymethyl-3-methyl-3-formyl-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane and -hept-5-ene and a process for their preparation. The new compounds are obtained by reacting cyclopentadiene or dicyclopentadiene with the corresponding 4-halo-, 4-alkoxy- or 4-acyloxy-2-methyl-crotonaldehydes under the conventional conditions for Diels-Alder reactions, with or without subsequent catalytic hydrogenation of the Diels-Alder adduct obtained. The new compounds provide an industrially easily realized and advantageous method of synthesis of the sought-after essential ingredients of natural sandalwood oils.
Abstract: The manufacture of N-disubstituted 1-aminoalk-2-yn-4-ols by reacting a secondary amine, e.g. a dialkylamine, formaldehyde and an acetylene-alcohol by a Mannich reaction, using a copper catalyst, takes place with better yield and at a higher rate if carried out in the presence of iodine or of a bromide or iodide.

Abstract: In a process for the manufacture of 1-amino-2-bromo-4-hydroxyanthraquinone by hydroxylating previously prepared and isolated 1-amino-2,4-dibromoanthraquinone in sulfuric acid in the presence of boric acid at from 110.degree. to 130.degree. C., the improvememt that 1-aminoanthraquinone is brominated (from 1.5 to 2.1 moles of bromine per mole) in sulfuric acid of from 50 to 85 percent strength at from 80.degree. to 130.degree. C., the reaction mixture is brought to a concentration of from 96 percent strength sulfuric acid to 5 percent strength oleum by adding oleum; and the dibromo compound is then hydroxylated in the presence of boric acid. Very pure 1-amino-2-bromo-4-hydroxyanthraquinone, which can be used for all purposes, is obtained in a high yield.

Abstract: Elastomeric coatings capable of reverting to their initial dimensions for the permanent bridging of joints and cracks in facades, walls and ceilings of old and new constructions, industrial floors, constructions at subgrade level, using coating materials which are deposited and dried employing coating apparatus known per se by painting, plastering, caulking or spraying or rolling. The coating materials are prepared from aqueous emulsions and/or aqueous dispersions and/or solutions of film forming binders in organic solvents possibly containing water, possibly also containing pigments, extenders, fillers, softeners, admixtures and additives and furthermore contain a fine-particle, elastomeric powder dispersed through the coating materials which dry into elastomeric films.
Abstract: A process for desizing and bleaching textile goods containing, or consisting of, cellulose, by simultaneous enzymatic desizing and pretreatment with a solution of sodium dithionite and a conventional heavy metal complexing agent in the presence of a buffer system at pH 6-9 and subsequent conventional peroxide bleaching in the presence of little or no silicate as a stabilizer. The process improves the bleaching effect and the economics and reduces the risk of fiber damage or destruction or of silicate deposits without an additional treatment stage.
