Abstract: Thermoplastic molding compositions, based on polymers of a monovinyl-aromatic compound which have been modified with rubber to increase their impact strength, which also exhibit increased stress crack resistance. The increased stress crack resistance is achieved if the proportion of the soft component in the polymer which has been modified to increase its impact strength, and the particle size and swelling index of the soft component phase, conform to particular values, and the tensile strength and yield stress of the thermoplastic molding compositions bear a particular ratio to one another. The molding compositions may in particular be used for the manufacture of internal liners of refrigerators and foodstuff packaging containers.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a transducer positioning and adjusting apparatus and, more particularly, to an improved system for accurately and reproducibly positioning a transducer head in vertical relationship to a series of parallel horizontal tracks on a recording medium such as magnetic video tape. The apparatus comprises a frame upon which the elements of the system are mounted and with respect to which they are vertically aligned. A cam having a plurality of horizontally planar steps formed about its upper surface is rotatably mounted upon said frame and a vertically moveable bearing post, which is secured at one end to the transducer head, is held in continuous contact with the stepping surfaces formed on the cam. A ball bearing which contacts the underside of the cam substantially beneath the stepping surface upon which the bearing post is held in contact is utilized to support the cam on the mounting frame and maintain said stepping surface in precise vertical alignment therewith.

They can be used as constituents of perfumes and of compositions for perfuming body care products, detergents and other consumer products.
Abstract: Styrene polymers or copolymers containing bromine are manufactured by cationic polymerization of the monomer, or of the monomer plus a copolymerizable monomer of the isobutylene or nuclear-alkylated styrene type, in an organic solvent in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst. Bromine is then added to the solution without first working up the latter. The catalyst used for the bromination is the same as that used for the polymerization. If necessary, fresh catalyst may be added before the bromination. After completion of the bromination the reaction solution is extracted with water until it is bromide-free, and the solvent, generally a halohydrocarbon, is then stripped off. Products containing up to about 80% by weight of bromine may be obtained. They have a pale yellowish color and exhibit no significant decomposition up to 340.degree. C. They may be used as flame-proofing agents for thermoplastics.

Abstract: High current efficiency can be obtained in an electrolytic cell by inducing turbulence in the catholyte preferably by utilizing a gas-directing cathode and cation-permselective membrane combination. There is disclosed a process for electrolysis, particularly, the electrolysis of an alkali metal chloride such as sodium chloride to produce chlorine and sodium hydroxide. Said cell has a cathode and an anode divided into catholyte and anolyte compartments by a cation-permselective membrane. Turbulence inducing means such as a gas-directing cathode provides turbulence in said catholyte at the surface of said membrane by directing gas evolving on said cathode toward or away from said membrane. Multicell arrangements are also disclosed wherein said cells are connected in series.
