Abstract: Polyesterols having reduced reactivity are prepared by catalytic polycondensation of dicarboxylic acids/dicarboxylic acid derivatives and H-functional substances using tin catalysts by a process wherein the polyesterols are brought into contact with oxygen after the end of the esterification reaction. The polyesterols themselves obtained by this process are used for the preparation of PU.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for preparing polyoxyalkylene glycols of a certain molecular weight in one stage by copolymerizing tetrahydrofuran and alpha,omega-diols as the comonomer in the presence of a heteropolyacid and of a hydrocarbon, by distilling off a mixture of water and this hydrocarbon from the copolymerization, which comprises terminating the polymerization when this molecular weight is attained by adding water, comonomer, butanediol or butanediol-water mixtures.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the partial or complete separation of a mixture comprising hydrogen chloride and phosgene, possibly solvents and possibly low boilers and inerts as are typically obtained in the preparation of isocyanates by reaction of amines with phosgene, which comprises firstly carrying out a partial or complete condensation of phosgene, then a distillation or stripping step in a column to remove the hydrogen chloride from the bottom product phosgene and subsequently a scrub of the top product hydrogen chloride by means of the process solvent to absorb the phosgene in the process solvent. An after-purification by means of adsorption on activated carbon or by another suitable method can subsequently be carried out to remove solvent residues.

Abstract: A catalyst composition suitable for reacting hydrocarbons such as in fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) comprises an attrition-resistant particulate having at least 30% of an intermediate pore zeolite, kaolin, a phosphorous compound, and a high density unreactive component. An example of an unreactive component is alpha-alumina. The catalyst can also contain a reactive alumina of high surface area.
Abstract: One aspect of the invention relates to a catalyst composite containing an extruded catalyst support containing an extruded activated carbonaceous material having specifically a defined pore structure. For example, the extruded activated carbonaceous material may have pores wherein at least about 40% of total Hg porosity occurs in pores having a diameter of about 200 ? and larger. Alternatively the extruded activated carbonaceous material may have a first set of pores having a pore diameter of at least about 40 ? and at most about 100 ? with a porosity of at least about 0.15 cc/g, and a second set of pores having a pore diameter of at least about 5,000 ? and at most about 20,000 ? with a porosity of at least about 0.3 cc/g.
Abstract: The present invention pertains to improved microorganisms and methods for the production of methionine and other sulfur containing fine chemicals using the metI gene from Bacillus subtilis or a gene related to metI. In some embodiments of the present invention, the metI gene or another gene is integrated in a fashion that allows for co-production of a water soluble compound such as methionine or other amino acid and a caortenoid compound.

Abstract: A shell-and-tube reactor is disclosed. Contact tubes are disposed within a cylindrical housing and are secured to tube plates. Gas and liquid phases are received via a feed opening in a lower end cap and discharged via an upper end cap in the housing. A distributor device for a gas phase/liquid phase mixture is disposed below the lowermost tube plate. The distributor device includes a distributor plate and a predistributor. The distributor plate is arranged horizontally within the housing and includes an active area having through-openings and a downward-extending margin, but does not extend over the entire cross section of the housing. The predistributor includes a second distributor plate disposed between the feed opening and the first distributor plate, wherein the second distributor plate includes a second active area with second through-openings and a second downward-extending margin.
