Abstract: A sensor dispensing instrument adapted to handle a sensor pack containing a plurality of sensors and to perform a test using one of the sensors. The sensor dispensing instrument includes an outer housing and a mechanical mechanism contained therein for rotating the sensor pack and ejecting one of the sensors from the sensor pack and through a sensor slot on the housing. The sensor dispensing instrument also includes a puller handle for operating the mechanical mechanism. The puller handle is adapted to be grasped between the thumb and finger of a user's hand, and is moveable between a testing position adjacent to the rear end of the outer housing and an extended position spaced outwardly from the rear end of the outer housing.
Abstract: The invention concerns novel enzymes having an arogenate dehydrogenase activity, in particular arogenate dehydrogenase enzymes of plants, and the genes encoding said enzymes. The inventive arogenate dehydrogenase enzymes catalyze the last stage of the metabolic pathway of tyrosine biosynthesis, and constitute, as such, potential targets of herbicides. Hence the invention also concerns a method for identifying herbicide compounds targeting said enzymes, said herbicide compounds preventing tyrosine biosynthesis by being fixed on said enzymes. The invention further concerns transgenic plants tolerant to herbicide compounds targeting an enzyme involved in the tyrosine biosynthesis pathway, in particular an enzyme involved in the transformation of L-tyrosine prephenate, in particular an arogenate dehydrogenase enzyme.
Abstract: A multi stage process for the production of polycarbonates having low monomer content is disclosed. The process entails, in sequence, (i) transesterifying in the melt at least one dihydroxyaryl compound with at least one diaryl carbonate in the presence of at least one onium catalyst to produce a polycondensate that contains monomers, (ii) introducing into the polycondensate an inhibitor in an hypostoichiometric amount in relation to the catalyst and (iii) reducing in a finishing reactor the content of monomers in said polycondensate. The polycarbonate thus produced is characterized in that it contains less than 350 ppm of diphenyl carbonate, less than 40 ppm of 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane and less than 150 ppm of phenol.

Abstract: A method is described for the back-moulding of sheets (7) with thermoplastics, in particular of printed sheets to protect the decorated surface against scratching or detachment, in which a sheet (7) that is initially separated from the moulded-article wall is pressed against the moulded-article wall by the melt front (3).
Abstract: Herein disclosed are methods that are prognostic for renal cell carcinoma, particularly renal clear cell carcinoma, afflicting a vertebrate. An exemplary prognostic method comprises detecting the presence of, and quantitating the level and/or extent of a MN/CA9 gene expression product in a sample from the affected subject, wherein if 50% or fewer cells are found to express the MN/CA9 gene, then the subject is considered to have a poorer prognosis. MN/CA9 gene expression products useful in the prognostic methods include MN protein, MN polypeptide and/or MN nucleic acids. The methods are useful as an aid in the selection of treatment for a patient with renal cell carcinoma, alone or in combination with conventional tumor stage and/or grade information. The methods of the invention can be used, for example, to identify those patients requiring more aggressive therapy regimens, or those patients most likely to respond to adjuvant immunotherapies, particularly MN/CA IX/CA9-targeted therapies.
