  • Publication number: 20230357291
Abstract: Here we show that P. ananatis produces at least three phosphonates, two of which were purified and structurally characterized. The first, designated pantaphos, was shown to be 2-(hydroxy(phosphono)methyl)maleate; the second, a probable biosynthetic precursor, was shown to be 2-(phosphonomethyl)maleate. Purified pantaphos is both necessary and sufficient for the hallmark lesions of onion center rot. Moreover, when tested against mustard seedlings, the phytotoxic activity of pantaphos was comparable to the widely used herbicides glyphosate and phosphinothricin. Pantaphos was also active against a variety of human cell lines.

  • Patent number: 11812540
Abstract: The present disclosure is generally directed to a plasma sheet source and methods of using same. The plasma sheet source includes a cylindrical electrode having a conductive cylindrical core surrounded by a dielectric material, a plurality of channels configured to direct gas from a gas inlet to the electrode, and a plasma outlet positioned below the electrode. Gas is introduced to the plasma sheet source and directed toward the electrode, which when powered by pulsed direct current, produces plasma as the gas ionizes. The produced plasma is then directed out of the plasma outlet to a specimen for treatment of the specimen. Notably, the plasma exiting the plasma outlet is in the form of a plasma sheet that is at approximately room temperature.

  • Patent number: 11805715
Abstract: A photoconductive switch that uses materials that support negative differential mobility, whose operation leverages the pulse compression of a charge could to generate the “on” time of the pulse in combination with the speed of light to generate the “off” time of the pulse, is described. In one example, a method of operating a photoconductive switch, which includes two electrodes and a light absorbing material positioned therebetween, includes selecting a value for one or more parameters comprising a voltage for generation of an electric field, a spot size of a laser pulse, a temporal pulse width of the laser pulse, or an intensity of the laser pulse, wherein the selected value(s) for the one or more parameters enable the switch to operate in a region where the light absorbing material exhibits negative differential mobility, and illuminating the light absorbing material with the laser pulse to generate a charge cloud within the light absorbing material.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a power semiconductor device includes forming a bi layer mask on a semiconductor substrate, where the bilayer mask comprises a first dielectric layer on the semiconductor substrate and a second dielectric layer on the first dielectric layer. The first and second dielectric layers are through-etched to define an exposed portion of the semiconductor substrate. The first dielectric layer is selectively etched to form an undercut region of the bi layer mask. A crystalline semiconductor material is epitaxially grown on the exposed portion of the semiconductor substrate, and a polycrystalline semiconductor material is deposited on the second dielectric layer of the bilayer mask. After the epitaxial growth, the bilayer mask and the polycrystalline semiconductor material are removed from the semiconductor substrate, leaving behind a mesa comprising the crystalline semiconductor material on the semiconductor substrate.
