  • Publication number: 20190178105
Abstract: In a turbocharger for receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and for delivering compressed air to the internal combustion engine, a backplate may include a lubricant stall protrusion, such as a rib, may be placed in recirculation or collection recesses of the backplate to stall recirculating lubricant flow and direct the lubricant into a bearing housing lubricant core and drain to reduce an amount of lubricant proximate piston rings and leaking into a compressor housing of the turbocharger. When an lubricant deflector is used, the lubricant stall protrusion stalls recirculating lubricant that is outboard of the lubricant deflector, and may have an outer protrusion edge closely matching the outboard contour of the lubricant deflector to minimize a flow gap there between.

  • Patent number: 10309300
Abstract: By relieving the shaft of an electronically-controlled turbocharger (ECT) in a central region of where a rotor of an electric machine couples with the shaft eases assembly of the electric machine onto the shaft. On either side of the relieved section, the fit between the shaft and the rotor may be a slip fit or an interference fit. Alternatively, the rotor is relieved in a central section. In some embodiments, the shaft is welded to the rotor. In yet other embodiments, the outside of the shaft and the inside of the rotor are threaded with a nut or a pin to secure the shaft to the rotor or the rotor itself has threads to engage with threads on the shaft. Such arrangements ease assembly and allow adjustment of dynamic characteristics of the rotor system.

  • Patent number: 10302186
Abstract: A transfer case comprises a primary output shaft, a secondary output shaft, a clutch, and a plurality of valves. The primary output shaft includes a hub rotationally coupled thereto. The clutch selectively couples the primary output shaft to the secondary output shaft to transfer torque therebetween. The clutch includes a housing, interleaved plates, and an apply plate. The housing is rotationally coupled to the secondary output shaft. The interleaved plates alternate between a first subset of the interleaved plates rotationally coupled to the hub and a second subset of the interleaved plates rotationally coupled to the housing. The apply plate compresses the interleaved plates for transferring torque between the hub and the housing. The valves selectively release oil supplied through the primary output shaft into the housing. Each valve includes a bore formed in the hub and a valve rod movable by the apply plate to open the valve.
