  • Patent number: 10837910
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting more than one fluorophore in a sample. A broad spectrum excitation light is passed through a shaping filter before illuminating the target sample with more than one fluorophore to be detected, where the optical density of the shaping filter changes based on the wavelength of the broad-spectrum excitation light passing through it.

  • Publication number: 20200216824
Abstract: Protein rupture under compressive forces can be regulated by cations. More specifically, pico-Newton forces can cause rupture of protein molecules, as shown in examples with calmodulin (CaM) and tau proteins, among others. However, rupture does not occur in the presence of various concentrations of cation(s), thus elucidating new targets for disease therapy and providing therapies for neurodegenerative diseases or other conditions involving protein misfolding, dysfunction, or aggregation.

  • Patent number: 10517997
Abstract: Uronate-containing polysaccharide hydrogels that can be photo-patterned are described. The method involves forming a hydrogel and imetal-coordinating it with a reducible metallic cation and exposing the hydrogel to light in a desired pattern. The exposure to light reduces the metallic cation and results in an irreversible change in the elastic moduli and pore size of the irradiated portions of the patterned hydrogel. The method aha the benefit of allowing the user to produce such a hydrogel in any pattern desired. Patterned hydrogels and cell substrates formed by this method are also described.

  • Patent number: 10080715
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing polysaccharide-based microparticles with improved mechanical properties and hydrolytic stability. The spherical particles are useful as exfoliating agents in cosmetic formulations, in replacement of the newly banned plastic microbeads. The method comprises the preparation of hydrogel particles, drying of the particles, and a solid-state reaction that results in the covalent stabilization of the material. The invention also encompasses microparticles made using the method.
