  • Patent number: 8381057
Abstract: A system and method for changing retransmission and rescheduling queues to support retransmission in a communications system is presented. A method for changing queue size values includes, for an increase in data rate, determining a new retransmission queue size value for a retransmission queue at the transmitting device and a new rescheduling queue size value for a rescheduling queue at the receiving device such that an amount of time for a DTU to enter and exit the retransmission queue is greater than a roundtrip delay. For a decrease in data rate, the method includes determining the new retransmission queue size value and the new rescheduling queue size value such that an amount of time for a DTU to enter and exit the retransmission queue is less than a maximum delay. Systems and methods for changing the retransmission and rescheduling queue sizes are also presented.

Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for reducing the complexity of multi-frequency hypothesis testing using an iterative approach may include estimating a frequency offset of a received signal via a plurality of iterative frequency offset hypotheses tests. The iterative frequency offset hypotheses may be adjusted for each iteration. A correlation may be done between a primary synchronization signal (PSS), and one or more frequency offset versions of a received signal to control the adjustment of the iterative frequency offset hypotheses. A frequency of the received local oscillator signal may be adjusted based on the estimated frequency offset. One or more frequency offset version of the received signal may be generated via one or more multiplication, and the multiplication may be achieved via a multiplication signal corresponding to one or more frequency offsets. The frequency offset of the received signal may be estimated via the correlation.

  • Patent number: 8379779
Abstract: An apparatus and methods supporting improved echo cancellation in a packet network is disclosed. An embodiment of the present invention may permit a split-band communication system operating in a narrowband mode to provide improved suppression of hybrid echo generated by the conversion of signals from a packet network to a two-wire analog circuit. By detecting the presence of signal characteristics outside of the relatively narrower bandwidth to be communicated, such an embodiment may more accurately detect the occurrence of speech received from a party on a relatively wider bandwidth communication circuit. The accurate detection of speech permits more effective suppression of any hybrid echo remaining after echo cancellation. An embodiment of the present invention may also have application in other systems that detect signals received via a path having a bandwidth greater than that to be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20130039503
Abstract: A beamforming technique for a microphone array is described to attenuate a source of undesired noise that is deemed the most limiting to audio quality in an acoustic environment. Possible sources of undesired noise include echo, background noise (stationary) and other interference signals (non-stationary). The beamforming technique is updated based on long-term evaluations. Once an evaluation occurs and a decision is made, the beamformer adapts with a maximum responsiveness and without intentional delay, and therefore not affecting the beamformer's tracking ability. When fixed beamforming is utilized, one of several fixed beamformers having different attenuation targets are selected to implement noise attenuation. When adaptive beamforming is utilized, the beamformer adapts whenever the selected target is deemed dominant.

  • Patent number: 8375232
Abstract: A system and method is described that allows a PoE-capable switch to selectively provide power to one or more remote devices in an instance where power being supplied to the switch itself is limited or failing. In one embodiment, the switch receives a notification from an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and, in response to receiving the notification, selectively provides power to one or more devices powered by the switch. Selectively providing power to one or more of the devices may include providing power to only a subset of the devices, providing a different amount of power to different ones of the devices, or providing power for different durations to different ones of the devices. In an alternate embodiment, in response to receiving the notification, the switch communicates with a remote device and causes the remote device to activate at least one power saving feature.

  • Patent number: 8373785
Abstract: The present invention includes operational amplifier for an active pixel sensor that detects optical energy and generates an analog output that is proportional to the optical energy. The active pixel sensor operates in a number of different modes including: signal integration mode, the reset integration mode, column reset mode, and column signal readout mode. Each mode causes the operational amplifier to see a different output load. Accordingly, the operational amplifier includes a variable feedback circuit to provide compensation that provides sufficient amplifier stability for each operating mode of the active pixel sensor. For instance, the operational amplifier includes a bank of feedback capacitors, one or more of which are selected based on the operating mode to provide sufficient phase margin for stability, but also considering gain and bandwidth requirements of the operating mode.

  • Patent number: 8374247
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for hierarchical motion estimation with multi-layer sub-pixel accuracy and motion vector smoothing are presented. Aspects of the system may include hierarchical motion vector computation that enables motion vectors to be computed at each level in the hierarchy based on a distinct pixel resolution level. A smoothing algorithm may be utilized to suppress spurious motion vector generation. The motion vectors computed at one level in the hierarchy may be utilized when computing motion vectors in a subsequent level. A bias value may be computed for each motion vector that provides an evaluation metric that may enable determination of whether the computed motion vector is to be utilized to enable generation of the interpolated image frame.

  • Publication number: 20130034061
Abstract: A responder endpoint establishes a reverse direction communication channel from the responder to an initiator. To that end, the responder endpoint receives a reverse direction grant indicator and determines when primary data is not ready to be sent to the initiator. In response, the responder transmits to the initiator, within a predetermined response time for establishing the reverse direction communication channel, a continuation frame comprising a continuation indicator that indicates that reverse direction communication channel should persist.
