Abstract: A wireless device includes at least one antenna, an RF interface, and processing circuitry coupled to the RF interface and indirectly to the at least one antenna. The wireless device identifies other wireless devices that service based upon transmission characteristics of wireless signals received from other wireless devices and/or relative positions of the other wireless devices with respect to itself. In a first operational period, the wireless device determines transmission characteristics of the other wireless devices. Then, during a second operational period, without further interaction with the other wireless devices, the wireless device determines communication link characteristics based simply upon transmission characteristics of the other wireless devices.

  • Publication number: 20080267100
Abstract: A wireless device includes a case, user interface, an antenna, first processing resources, and second processing resources. The first processing resources couple to the antenna and to the second processing resources and receive and operate upon a data signal transmitted by a transmitting wireless device. In its processing operations, the first processing resources produces decoded data blocks and writes the decoded data blocks to a data buffer. When a processing resource threshold is met with regard to the plurality of decoded data blocks, the first processing resources issue a service processing interrupt to the second processing resources. In response to the service processing interrupt, the second processing resources retrieve the plurality of decoded data blocks from the data buffer in response to the service processing interrupt and process the plurality of decoded data blocks.

  • Publication number: 20080265989
Abstract: Methods for designing a filterless class-D amplifier and driver are described herein. In the exemplary embodiment, a feedback loop is used to stabilize the filterless class-D amplifier. A pulse width modulated (PWM) output signal is generated by adding a comparator input signal to a comparative signal, and comparing the sum to a peak voltage, which can be a peak value of the comparative signal. A limit of one PWM sample will be generated half per period of the comparative signal, resulting in lower dynamic switching noise and a decreased sensitivity to jitter noise than conventional filterless class-D amplifiers.

  • Patent number: 7443221
Abstract: A system and method that use a first clock to digitally generate a second clock, wherein the ratio of the frequency of the first clock to the frequency of the second clock is a non-integer. Circuitry may be used to ensure that the first clock, or input clock, has a frequency at least equal to the highest of the desired output frequencies. The input clock may be used to generate several output clocks with different frequencies. If one of the output clocks has the same frequency as the input clock, the circuitry can be bypassed. The different clocks may be used to drive parts of a system, each of which may require a different frequency.

  • Patent number: 7443248
Abstract: A gain compensator compensates for the gain variation of a varactor-tuned voltage tuned oscillator (VCO) in a phase lock loop (PLL). The VCO includes a parallel LC circuit having multiple fixed capacitors that can be switched-in or switched-out of the LC circuit according to a capacitor control signal to perform band-select tuning of the VCO. The gain compensator compensates for the variable VCO gain by generating a charge pump reference current that is based on the same capacitor control signal that controls the fixed capacitors in the LC circuit. The gain compensator generates the charge pump reference current by replicating a reference scale current using unit current sources. The number of times the reference scale current is replicated is based on the fixed capacitance that is switched-in to the LC circuit and therefore the frequency band of the PLL.

  • Patent number: 7443812
Abstract: A signal processing system which discriminates between voice signals and data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier. The signal processing system includes a voice exchange, a data exchange and a call discriminator. The voice exchange is capable of exchanging voice signals between a switched circuit network and a packet based network. • Patent number: 7443930
Abstract: A complex digital phase locked loop for use in a digital demodulator includes a phase detector for producing a phase error indicative of a difference in phase between a complex digital input signal and a complex digital feedback signal. The phase error is input to a controller, which multiplies the phase error by a gain factor selected to stabilize and optimize the phase locked loop and produces an output signal for use in extracting a frequency deviation present in the complex digital input signal. The output signal is also input to a numerically controlled oscillator that tracks the phase of the complex digital input signal based on the output signal and produces the complex digital feedback signal.

  • Patent number: 7443890
Abstract: A multi-stage bit stream multiplexer that divides multiplexing functions between two or more integrated circuits. The first integrated circuit receives 16 bit streams to produce 4 output bits streams with a nominal data rate of 10 GBPS. A second integrated circuit multiplexes the 4 streams and to a bit stream with a data rate of 40 GBPS. The first IC is made in a standard CMOS process while the second IC is made using processes that support higher switching rates. The first IC produces a source-centered double data rate forward transmit clock from a reference clock selectable from either a crystal oscillator, a voltage controlled oscillator using a loop clock from the receive side of the bit stream multiplexer or a reverse clock generated by the second IC. The reverse clock can be selected as the source of the reference either by default, or in response to a specific condition.
