  • Patent number: 7456761
Abstract: A communications system, having a combination Reed-Solomon encoder and a Turbo-Code encoder Data frame configuration which may be changed to accommodate embedded submarkers of known value are embedded in with the data order to aid synchronization in the receiver system, by providing strings of known symbols. The string of known symbols may be the same as the symbols within a training header that appears at the beginning of a data frame. Frame parameters may be tailored to individual users and may be controlled by information pertaining to receivers, such as bit error rate, of the receiver. Additional headers may be interspersed within the data in order to assist in receiver synchronization. Frames of data may be acquired quickly by a receiver by having a string of symbols representing the phase offset between successive header symbols in the header training sequence in order to determine the carrier offset.

  • Patent number: 7457351
Abstract: Cancellation of interference in a communication system with application to S-CDMA. A relatively straight-forward implemented and computationally efficient approach of selecting a predetermined number of unused codes is used to perform weighted linear combination selectively with each of the input spread signals in a multiple access communication system. If desired, the predetermined number of unused codes is always the same in each implementation. Alternatively, the predetermined number of unused codes is selected from within a reordered code matrix using knowledge that is shared between the two ends of a communication system, such as between the CMs and a CMTS. While the context of an S-CDMA communication system having CMs and a CMTS is used, the solution is generally applicable to any communication system that seeks to cancel narrowband interference. Several embodiments are also described that show the generic applicability of the solution across a wide variety of systems.

  • Patent number: 7457845
Abstract: Aspects of the invention for posting buffers for a non-posting TCP application may comprise posting at least one generic buffer located in a memory external to a host adapter and transferring incoming data for a TCP connection to the posted generic buffer prior to the non-posting TCP application posting a TCP application buffer for the incoming data. At least one generic buffer may be allocated from a pool of available generic buffers upon receipt of the incoming TCP connection data. At least a portion of the incoming data may be stored in the allocated generic buffer if the TCP application buffer is unable to accommodate the incoming data. The method may further determining whether the incoming data for the TCP connection transferred to the posted generic buffer is in sequence and ordering the incoming data based on a sequence number if the incoming data is out of sequence.

  • Patent number: 7457420
Abstract: A Japanese BTSC audio broadcast signal has three modes of transmission: mono, stereo, or dual mono. The control channel centering at 3.5 fH is one of the three channels in the J-BTSC signal, and contains information to indicate to the decoder which one of the three modes the audio transmission is in. The present invention uses a bandpass filter directly in the AM band, followed by envelope filtering and a decision circuit. Therefore, the need for AM demodulation and AM carrier detection is eliminated.

  • Publication number: 20080284919
Abstract: An integrated receiver with channel selection and image rejection substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described. A receiver front end provides programmable attenuation and a programmable gain low noise amplifier. Frequency conversion circuitry advantageously uses LC filters integrated onto the substrate in conjunction with image reject mixers to provide sufficient image frequency rejection. Filter tuning and inductor Q compensation over temperature are performed on chip. The filters utilize multi track spiral inductors. The filters are tuned using local oscillators to tune a substitute filter, and frequency scaling during filter component values to those of the filter being tuned. In conjunction with filtering, frequency planning provides additional image rejection. The advantageous choice of local oscillator signal generation methods on chip is by PLL out of band local oscillation and by direct synthesis for in band local oscillator.

  • Publication number: 20080289016
Abstract: A system and method for authentication for configuring a customer premises equipment (CPE) in a service provider network. In a multiple dwelling unit (MDU) a customer device (e.g., voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) phone) can be configured with CPE functionality, thereby enabling the customer device CPE to support the provision of service to multiple additional customer devices in a customer premises. A dedicated CPE device is thereby eliminated from the service provider network. The customer device CPE can be designed to support a form of authentication (e.g., Layer 2, Layer 3) that would be sufficient for access by the multiple additional customer devices to various network services.

  • Patent number: 7453935
Abstract: Various systems and methods providing high speed decoding, enhanced power reduction and clock domain partitioning for a multi-pair gigabit Ethernet transceiver are disclosed. ISI compensation is partitioned into two stages; a first stage compensates ISI components induced by characteristics of a transmitter's partial response pulse shaping filter in a demodulator, a second stage compensates ISI components induced by characteristics of a multi-pair transmission channel in a Viterbi decoder. High speed decoding is accomplished by reducing the DFE depth by providing an input signal from a multiple decision feedback equalizer to the Viterbi based on a tail value and a subset of coefficient values received from a unit depth decision-feedback equalizer. Power reduction is accomplished by adaptively truncating active taps in the NEXT, FEXT and echo cancellation filters, or by disabling decoder circuitry portions, as channel response characteristics allow.

  • Patent number: 7454183
Abstract: A method and system for antenna selection diversity with dynamic gain control. A receiver selects a starting antenna and dwells on it until an incoming signal is detected. An AGC is applied on the received signal and an estimate of the received power is determined for the starting antenna. The receiver may dwell on other antennas if the signal in the first antenna is not strong enough for signal processing. The gain of an antenna may be set by the gain and power levels of the previously dwelled-on antennas and/or by a power coupling factor that exists between the antennas in an antenna switch. The receiver switches through the remaining antennas as long as necessary to select at least one of the antennas for signal processing. Dynamically adjusting the gain of antennas in a diversity system provides a more accurate and efficient antenna selection scheme.
