  • Patent number: 9036478
Abstract: Techniques for securing transmit opening help enhance the operation of a station that employs the technique. The techniques may facilitate low latency response to a protocol data requester, for instance. The techniques provide ways for the protocol data requester to provide additional time for the protocol data responder to obtain the needed response data for the protocol data requester. One way in which this can be done is by intelligently lengthing the protocol request transmitted by the protocol requester.

  • Patent number: 9037092
Abstract: A method of determining at a receiver whether a received signal comprises a pure tone signal component. The method comprises: measuring a received signal over a measurement period; calculating, using maximum likelihood hypothesis testing, a likelihood ratio value for the measured signal and, determining, based on said likelihood ratio value, whether the measured signal comprises a pure tone signal component. The likelihood ratio value is a value indicative of the ratio of a likelihood LFSC that the measured signal comprises a pure tone signal component, and a likelihood LnoFSC that the measured signal does not comprise the pure tone signal component.

  • Patent number: 9037106
Abstract: A circuit for baseband harmonic rejection includes multiple transconductance cells coupled to one another at outputs of the transconductance cells and configured to receive down-converted signals that vary from one another to produce a weighted current signal proportional to a voltage corresponding to a respective down-converted signal. The circuit also includes a feedback impedance coupled between an input of one of the transconductance cells and the outputs of the transconductance cells. Each of the transconductance cells has an effective transconductance of a first magnitude for frequency components of the down-converted signal arising from a first harmonic and an effective transconductance of a second magnitude less than the first magnitude for frequency components of the down-converted signal arising from harmonics at integer multiples of the first harmonic.

  • Patent number: 9035484
Abstract: A powerline communication (PLC) transmission module transmits a signal over a three-line electrical mains supply. The PLC transmission module includes at least two coupling transformers, each transformer coupling the signal to first and second line-pairs of a three-line electrical mains supply, the first and second line-pairs different from one another. Driving circuitry drives a first version of the signal over the first line-pair and a second version of the signal over the second line-pair. Inversion circuitry selectively inverts one version of the signal relative to the other version of the signal, dependent upon an enacted transmission mode. The inversion circuitry may invert neither/both of the versions of the signal so that the signal is transmitted as a differential-mode signal on the line-pairs or invert one of the first and second versions of the signal relative to the other so that the signal is a common-mode signal.

Abstract: A method and apparatus that controls the clock of a digital circuit, and therefore power consumption, without substantially comprising performance is provided. The apparatus may include monitoring the utilization of a First in First Out (FIFO) buffer. For example in a systems and methods according to the invention, clock speed may be reduced when the FIFO is relatively empty and increased when the FIFO is relatively full. The clock speed may be controlled by a phase locked loop, a clock divider, a clock masking device or a combination of more than one of these methods. Power reduction may also be obtained by controlling the clocking of different stages of a pipelined device. One or more aspects of the inventions may be implemented in combination with other aspects of the invention to further reduce power use.

  • Patent number: 9037942
Abstract: A turbo decoder is configured to perform iterative decoding of data bits of a data packet received via a source signal to converge on a “soft” decision representation for each data bit of the data packet. The turbo decoder includes both an interleaved decoder and a non-interleaved decoder that work collaboratively to refine and improve the “soft” decision of each of the originally-received data bits. The interleaved decoder and the non-interleaved decoder are injected with extrinsic information based on at least a-priori information of the source signal. The turbo decoder avoids positive feedback of the a-priori information regarding the source signal from one decoder to the other by subtracting out extrinsic information based on the a-priori information that is injected into a decoder from the “soft” decision(s) determined by the decoder.

  • Patent number: 9037165
Abstract: The location or changes in location of a communications device may be determined by various means, such as via a satellite navigation system, within the communications device. The location of the communications device may then be used to determine communication standard parameters needed for operation. The communications device may then configure itself to use the appropriate parameters for operation using the determined standards. The configuration information may be stored in the communications device. The communications device may comprise at least one radio wireless communication that may need to be updated. The wireless communication may comprise cellular communication, Internet access, and reception of audio and/or video broadcasts, where the audio/video broadcasts may be analog and/or digital.

  • Patent number: 9036681
Abstract: Linear symbol level equalisation is used to estimate a transmitted symbol vector xn(0) in an nth observation window yn of signals received from multiple users each using a different spreading code. An iterative conjugate gradient algorithm resolves a column vector z that satisfies Az=b, A being a square matrix and b being a column vector. The matrix vector product Apk used in each respective kth iteration of the algorithm is computed using at least one fast transform. The receiver or detector estimates a posterior mean {circumflex over (x)}LMMSE,n(0) from the computed column vector z, then utilises the estimated posterior mean to determine the transmitted symbol vector xn(0). The posterior mean {circumflex over (x)}LMMSE,n(0) may be estimated from matrix A and vector b. Different examples have the square matrix A with an inner or an outer product form; and have the fast transform as a fast Walsh-Hadamard transform and/or a fast (inverse) Fourier transform.

  • Patent number: 9036521
Abstract: Techniques, systems and apparatus are described for reducing battery power consumption during a discontinuous reception and transmission mode of operation of a communication device. When operating in the discontinuous reception and transmission mode, a communication device can process radio frequency signals received from base stations to identify a set of active base stations based on a quality of the received radio frequency signals. This can reduce the total number of base stations to decode the corresponding system frame number (SFN). Based on the decoded SFN, the communication device can select a base station to perform hand-off.

  • Publication number: 20150131446
Abstract: To reduce latency in a network device that buffer packets in different queues based on class of service, packets received from a network are stored in physical queues according to a class of service associated with the packets and a class of service associated with each of the physical queues. The physical queues are scheduled based quality of service requirements of their associated class of service. The physical queues are shadowed by virtual queues, and whether congestion exists in at least one of the virtual queues is determined. Packets departing from at least one of the physical queues are marked when congestion exists in at least one of the virtual queues. The service rate of the virtual queues is set to be less than or equal to a port link rate of the network device.

Abstract: A system for hierarchical management of devices may include memory and a processor. The processor may configure first devices of a first network with device operating policies to perform operations based at least on attributes of the first devices, where the operating policies prevent device interference. The processor may discover a second network of second devices managed by a second management entity and may negotiate with the second management entity to determine a primary management entity for the networks. • Publication number: 20150131431
Abstract: A system and method to provide a protection ring in an Audio Visual Bridging (AVB) network is provided. The method includes the steps of monitoring a first status of links coupled to a plurality of devices in a ring network, receiving a second status of links of other devices in the ring network, and signaling devices in the ring network to generate a logical loop-free topology based upon a stored static physical configuration, the first status of the links and the second status of links of other network devices in the ring network. • Publication number: 20150134851
Abstract: Aspects of geotagged communications are described herein. In one embodiment, a data unit including a geotag field is received over an ingress port of a network component. In turn, the network component may determine a path for forwarding the data unit to a location associated with the geotag field and with reference to a forwarding decision index. The path may include a least distance hop or a least distance route for forwarding or routing the data unit. With reference to the forwarding path, the network component may identify an egress port for forwarding the data unit. The network component may also forward the data unit over the egress port. According to other aspects, geolocation data may enable a network component to implement geotag-based virtual local area networks, geotag-based multiprotocol label switching, geotag-based fault detection and isolation, or geotag-based firewalls and fencing in wired routers or switches, for example.
