  • Patent number: 9031126
Abstract: A system and method for video encoding using noise level estimates from vertical blanking interval lines. A video signal may be received by an encoding system. Information may be extracted from the video signal and may be analyzed. The extracted information may be vertical blanking intervals. The extracted and analyzed information may be utilized to estimate a noise level of the video signal. The estimated noise level may then be utilized in encoding the video signal by being inserted into the video signal or used to change parameters used in video encoding.

  • Patent number: 9032453
Abstract: A multiplexed transport interface (MTSIF) may be utilized during communication between a demodulation module and a video processing system-on-chip (SoC). The MTSIF may enable concurrent demodulation of a plurality of input modulated video streams, via a plurality of demodulator chips within the demodulation module, by multiplexing data generated by the demodulator chips via the MTSIF during communication between the demodulator module and the video processing SoC. The MTSIF may also be utilized for communicating control signals, which may be used in controlling and/or managing operations of the demodulation module, the video processing SoC, and/or the MTSIF. Communication via the MTSIF may be synchronized. Packets communicated via the MTSIF may be timestamped. Timestamp counters may be used in the demodulation module and the video processing SoC to generate and/or track timestamps in communicated packets. The timestamp counter may be synchronized, using control signals communicated via the MTSIF.

  • Patent number: 9031177
Abstract: A receiver is disclosed that is capable of correcting for harmonic distortion injected into received analog signals. The receiver splits the analog signal in the analog front-end and modifies the split analog signals with a difference signal. After amplification and/or sampling, the modified analog signals are recombined in a main data pathway and are kept separate in a secondary pathway. Utilizing the difference signal, a feedback loop that includes distorters and an LMS filter detects the distortion coefficient of the harmonic distortion. A distorter in the main data pathway utilizes the detected distortion coefficient to correct the harmonic distortion in the analog signal.

  • Patent number: 9031388
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for switching between a live video decoding and a recorded playback in a digital video and recording system. A received video data stream is transmitted to a first-in first-out video decoder buffer without first looping the video data stream through a playback buffer. The video data stream is transmitted from the video decoder buffer to a video decoder. If a “pause” command is received, the video data stream is transmitted to a first-in first-out playback buffer, while continuing to transmit the video data stream to the video decoder buffer. Transmission of the video data stream to the video decoder buffer is halted when the video decoder buffer fills up. The last byte of the video data stream that was transmitted to the video decoder buffer is marked. If a “play” command is received, the video data stored in the video decoder buffer is transmitted to the video decoder.

  • Patent number: 9031604
Abstract: Certain aspects of a method and system for providing wireless communication may include a single integrated circuit (IC) that handles communication for at least a Bluetooth (BT) connection and a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) connection by controlling transmission of acknowledgement signals based on a measured voice quality for one or both of the BT connection and the WLAN connection. The transmission of the acknowledgement signals communicated from the mobile station to an access point may be controlled. A BT priority signal may be asserted if data to be transmitted comprises high quality voice (HV3) data. The transmission of the acknowledgement signals may be controlled by raising a priority of an asserted WLAN priority signal higher than a priority of the asserted BT priority signal. The voice data may be transmitted via high quality voice (HV3) frames over the BT connection based on the asserted WLAN priority signal.

  • Patent number: 9030969
Abstract: A wireless communication device is disclosed that is capable of utilizing multiple radio access technologies (RATs) in various coordinated ways so as to optimize, and enhance the versatility, of the device's communication capabilities. One or more RATs may be selected for use, either alone or in cooperation with each other, based on various conditions, such as channel conditions, traffic, data type, and priority. When conditions change, the originally-selected communication scheme may no longer be preferred. Consequently, the device can initiate a handover to another communication scheme. Transmitters corresponding to RATs that are not currently selected are controlled to enter a low-power state in order to conserve power. However, in some circumstances, the device may utilize both RATs simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20150128004
Abstract: A communication device (or device) includes a communication interface and processor that support communications with one or more other devices within a communication system. The processor generates and interprets different signals, frames, packets, symbols, etc. for transmission to other devices and that have been received from other devices. The device generates modulation symbols based on two-dimensional (2-D) symbol locations of a constellation. The device generates the 2-D symbol locations using based on recursive one-dimensional (1-D) Gray code formula applied to bits of symbol values. The recursive 1-D Gray code formula specifies first symbol locations for symbol values having a first number of bits (e.g., n) based on second symbol locations for other symbol values having one fewer bits per symbol (e.g., n?1). The device maps data symbols to the 2-D symbol locations to generate the modulation symbols and transmits the modulation symbols to another communication device.

  • Publication number: 20150126158
Abstract: A transmitting communication device may iteratively adjust its transmit power, and may estimate, based on iterative transmit power adjustment, relative location of a receiving communication device. The transmit power may be initialized to a maximum value, and the transmit power may be iteratively reduced until connectivity with the receiving communication device is lost. The loss of connectivity may be determined based on reception of responses to ping messages transmitted by the transmitting communication device. The transmitting communication device may authenticate the receiving communication device and/or a user of the receiving communication device. The authentication may comprises utilizing transmit power adjustment and/or relative location estimation therefrom to ensure that a separation between the devices does not exceed a maximum value.

Abstract: Aspects of the invention described herein may enable a greenfield access mode in IEEE 802.11n WLAN systems in comparison to an alternative approach that may not provide greenfield access. The utilization of greenfield access may reduce the portion of time required to transmit data due to overhead comprising preamble fields and header fields. This may enable higher data throughput rates to be achieved. This may further enable more robust transmission of data by enabling comparable data rates to be maintained while reducing the coding rate of encoded transmitted data. The reduction of the coding rate may enable comparable data rates to be maintained for transmission via RF channels characterized by lower SNR while still achieving desired target levels of packet error rates. In another aspect of the invention, mixed mode access may be achieved while reducing the portion of time required for transmitting data due to overhead.
