  • Patent number: 9479978
Abstract: Embodiments of this disclosure include methods in which a core network controller determines which femtocell base station to handover a cellular device to. Methods include comparing a cell parameter difference provided by a base station with a cell parameter difference provided by the cellular device. The cell parameter difference provided by the base station is the cell parameter difference between the base station and each neighboring base station. The cell parameter difference provided by the cellular device is the cell parameter difference between the base station through which the cellular device is currently associated with to the core network and each neighboring base station. The core network controller compares the cell parameter difference provided by the cellular device with the cell parameter difference provided by the base station. The core network hands the cellular device to the base station when the cell parameter difference provided by each are substantially equivalent.

  • Patent number: 9479622
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for performing out-of-order message filtering with aging. The system and method can be used in a destination device that can receive messages out-of-order (i.e., in a different order than they were transmitted) from a source device. The system and method can filter-out or flag for appropriate handling these messages received out-of-order. To perform the above noted message filtering functionality, the system and method uses a database constructed from a content-addressable memory (CAM) and a random-access memory (RAM) to respectively remember source identifiers and sequence identifiers associated with previously received messages. A source identifier identifies the source of a message, and a sequence identifier identifies the transmission order of the message among the messages transmitted from the particular source. Each message can include a source identifier and a corresponding sequence identifier.

  • Patent number: 9477814
Abstract: An apparatus and method for converting an IP-based multimedia channel and distributing the channel to a plurality of non-IP enabled devices based on the channel's popularity among the devices. The apparatus identifies a plurality of multimedia channels requested by a group of devices, and determines a data rate for providing each channel to the devices based on a popularity of each channel among the devices. The apparatus uses an adaptive bit rate (ABR) client to receive content segments for a respective one of the multimedia channels from an ABR server at a source data rate aligned with a determined data rate for providing the respective multimedia channel. The content segments are received at the source data rate, and converted by the apparatus to a continuous digital content stream. The apparatus then provides the continuous digital content stream to one or more of the devices at the determined data rate.

  • Patent number: 9479236
Abstract: For an infinite number of transmit antennas at a base station (BS), matched filter (MF) precoding (a type of precoding used to perform SU-MIMO transmission) becomes optimal for performing spatial multiplexing. But observations have shown that precoding types for performing MU-MIMO transmission can perform significantly better than MF precoding for a realizable number of transmit antennas at the BS, even while using the simplest precoding types for MU-MIMO transmission. For large inter-cell interference typically encountered by user terminals (UTs) at or near the boundary of the cell served by the BS, MF precoding can still be used to eliminate or reduce the need for coordination among cells, which consumes network and back-haul resources.

  • Patent number: 9479621
Abstract: Embodiments include systems and methods for enabling a physical layer (PHY) link signaling channel between a network termination modem and a cable modem in a cable network. The PHY link signaling channel is embedded within the same multi-carrier channel as the data and enables PHY link up between the network termination modem and cable modern without involvement of higher layers (e.g., MAC). The PHY link signaling channel can be implemented in the downstream (from the network termination modem to the cable modem(s)) or in the upstream from a cable modem to the network termination modem. Embodiments are applicable to any known cable network, and particularly to cable networks implementing the DOCSIS and EPoC standards.

  • Patent number: 9479935
Abstract: A collocated device functioning as a configurator can use short and long button activations to enter a configuration state, open a timing window, and force client devices currently joined to a network to rejoin the network. If the collocated device functioning as a configurator is unconfigured, a short (or long) button activation can initiate a configuration sequence. A short button activation on that same collocated device, once configured, can cause the device to open a configurator timing window, during which one or more devices can be provided the information necessary to securely communicate on a network. A long (or short) button activation can be used to force all currently connected client devices, or rejoin the network using a new Service Set Identifier (SSID) or passphrase.

  • Publication number: 20160309477
Abstract: Transmission coordination within multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. Within wireless communication systems, there can be various wireless communication devices therein that are not all compliant with a common capability set, communication protocol, communication standard, recommended practice, etc. For example, some communication systems may have some wireless communication devices characterized as ‘legacy’ wireless communication devices, and other wireless communication devices therein may be newer and compliant with newer capability sets, communication protocols, communication standards, recommended practices, etc. In such instances, coordination of transmissions among the various wireless communication devices may be made, when performing simultaneous transmissions, by ensuring that transmissions of devices on different channels is made when aligned on a common boundary of an OFDM symbol.
