  • Patent number: 8856559
Abstract: An integrated circuit is disclosed that contains both a PMU and another processing portion, such as a baseband. Because of the limited pins devoted to the PMU, the PMU receives most of its signals through the other processing portion of the integrated circuit. Thus, in order to protect the PMU, the integrated circuit isolates the PMU portion from receiving different signals from the other processing portion until after certain conditions are satisfied. In addition, the integrated circuit includes a GPIO pin bank in the other processing portion that can be freely configured so as to allow for testing of the PMU.

  • Patent number: 8855641
Abstract: A wireless communication device is disclosed that is capable of performing efficient measurements of secondary radio access technologies (RATs). The device includes multiple receiver chains. While operating in a first RAT, the device receives a measurement gap in order to perform measurements. Even though the measurement gap may be too small to adequately measure the other RAT, the device controls one of the receiver chains to measure the other RAT during a time period that overlaps with the measurement gap. In addition, when preparing for an inter-RAT handoff, the device controls one of the receiver chains to perform measurements regardless of whether a measurement gap has been received. In this manner, measurements of alternative RATs are efficiently performed, and handoff latency is significantly reduced.

  • Patent number: 8855026
Abstract: A network sends to a user equipment UE a reference signal configuration, and from receiving it the UE selects a codeword identifying a cooperative multipoint CoMP transmission scheme. There is a CoMP scheme selection codebook from which the UE selects the codeword corresponding to its recommended CoMP scheme. The UE sends to the network that codeword which identifies the CoMP transmission scheme, along with the CSI feedback characterizing the CoMP transmission scheme. From that codeword which the network receives it determines the UE's assumed CoMP transmission scheme, which the network uses to determine how the CSI feedback, received from the UE, was calculated by the UE (for example, joint transmission, or dynamic point selection with or without muting, or coordinating scheduling/beamforming). The network uses this information for selecting a CoMP transmission scheme for downlink CoMP transmissions to the UE.

Abstract: Compensation circuitry includes a resistor and transistor coupled in series with a reference current source to generate a variable reference voltage that is provided, via a voltage regulator, to bias elements of a core circuit in order to establish an operating current in the core circuit. In one embodiment, the resistor and transistor of the compensation circuitry are of similar construction to the bias elements of the core circuit, such that fluctuations in the ratio of the reference current and the operating current of the core circuit are minimized over process, supply voltage and temperature variations. The voltage regulator may be a low dropout regulator. In various embodiments, the core circuit may comprise a resistor biased voltage controlled oscillator, a differential current mode logic (CML) input to single CMOS output circuit, or like circuitry that may be sensitive to phase noise or requires low power operation.

  • Publication number: 20140297669
Abstract: A method and system for drawing roaming users to a particular virtually tagged location based on associated geolocation virtual tags. Notifications are provided to the user of a mobile communications device at a first location to attract the user to a second location having associated virtual tags. For example, a series of virtual tags trigger at different distance intervals from the virtually tagged posting location to provide the user with periodic directions (i.e., arrows, audible “turn left here”, “only 100 m away”, etc.) drawing the roaming user to the virtually tagged location. Various modes of operation provide the roaming user with customizability based on individual characteristics, behaviors and preferences.

  • Publication number: 20140295831
Abstract: A wireless communication device includes a single baseband processor and RF chain for servicing a first and second SIM. Each of the SIMs connects to a different network, and one may be used for one data type while the other is used for another data type. In order to track the connectivity of an inactive first SIM, a controller periodically interrupts service to the second SIM. During its connection, the first SIM monitors the connection to its network. A triggering mechanism and trigger threshold define when a switch to a new cell is needed. The device receives the mechanism and threshold from the network and calculates a modified threshold and/or mechanism is order to reduce a number of potentially missed calls.
