  • Publication number: 20140301258
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for reducing power consumption in a mobile device having a Internet Protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) framework for supporting, e.g., Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE), IP Voice over High Speed Packet Access (VoHSPA), and Rich Communication Suite (RCS) features. To support such functionality in a mobile device while reducing power consumption, a local Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) agent is implemented in, e.g., a wireless modem, of the mobile device to which SIP-related signaling can be redirected, and at which SIP-related processing can be performed when an application processor (AP) Of the mobile device is in sleep mode, thereby negating a need to wake up the AP to handle such functionality.

  • Publication number: 20140303840
Abstract: In automotive networking applications, data about vehicle's environment can be used in conjunction with a control policy to manage the performance and power usage of a networked device. The control policy can dynamically adjust the balance between link power and performance of the device's communications interface by taking into account the vehicles current situation and user preferences, e.g. location, destination, speed, sensor status, or the like. Controlling the balance between link power and performance of networked devices can be important in maximizing power savings without unacceptably decreasing network performance.

  • Patent number: 8854259
Abstract: A GNSS receiver in a wake up state during a standby mode may acquire ephemeris from received GNSS signals such as GPS signals and/or GLONASS signals. When subsequently transitioning from the standby mode to a normal mode operating at a high frequency clock, the acquired ephemeris may be utilized to generate a navigation solution for the GNSS receiver. The GNSS receiver in the wake up state during the standby mode may be switched to operate at the high frequency clock in order to receive GNSS signals. The GNSS receiver may extract complete ephemeris from the received GNSS signals, and may subsequently transition from the wake up state to a sleep state during the standby mode to save power. Radio frequency front-end components of the GNSS receiver may only be turned on to receive the GNSS signals. The GNSS receiver may transition between the standby mode and the normal mode.

  • Patent number: 8854094
Abstract: A disclosed exemplary embodiment is a phase locked loop comprising a main charge pump driven by a phase error signal, and providing a first input to a loop filter. An auxiliary charge pump driven by the phase error signal feeds a second input of the loop filter. The loop filter can be an active loop filter comprising an operational amplifier and a feedback RC network. The first input of the active loop filter can be an inverting input of the operational amplifier and the second input can be a non-inverting input of the operational amplifier. An on-chip stabilizing capacitor fed by the auxiliary charge pump and coupled to the second input of the loop filter is significantly smaller than the conventional stabilizing capacitors. The loop filter outputs a regulating voltage for regulating the oscillation frequency of a voltage controlled oscillator in the phase locked loop.

  • Patent number: 8855250
Abstract: A wireless communication device is disclosed that includes an automatic gain controller capable of accurately adjusting gain of a received signal. The received signal includes a plurality of symbols, including pilot symbols that each includes at least one pilot tone, and data symbols that do not include any pilot tones. A power of a pilot symbol is determined, and a power of a data symbol is determined. The determined data symbol power is then scaled by a scaling factor (that depends on various system parameters) and is subtracted from the determined pilot symbol power to provide an estimate of a power of the pilot tones within the signal. From the estimated pilot tone power, the automatic gain controller can accurately determine a preferred gain for amplifying future frames of the received signal.

  • Patent number: 8854384
Abstract: In a graphics processing device, a plurality of processors write fragment shading results for order-dependent data to a buffer, according to the order in which the data is received. Fragment shading results for order-neutral data is written to the buffer one batch at a time. The order-dependent data comprises spatially overlapping data. Order-neutral data may not overlap. A scheduler controls the order of reception of one batch of data at a time by the processors. The order for receiving the order-dependent data may be determined. The plurality of processors may process the data in parallel. A writing order for writing results to a buffer from the processing in parallel, may be enforced. A portion of the processors may be instructed to wait before writing results to the buffer in a specified order. Processors signal when writing results to the buffer is complete.
