  • Patent number: 8825102
Abstract: Systems and methods for regulating transmit power in a mobile station to comply with SAR limits are disclosed. A mobile station may include a processor, transmitter, and proximity sensor. The transmitter is configured to operate at a transmit power controlled by a first transmit power limit. The proximity sensor identifies how close the mobile station is to a human head. A transmit power regulator, implemented on the processor, determines the cumulative energy radiated by the transmitter over a specified number of frames. If the cumulative energy exceeds an energy limit based on a SAR limit, and the proximity sensor indicates that the mobile station is close to a human head, the transmit power regulator may decrease the transmit power limit of the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 8824593
Abstract: A wireless transmitter is disclosed that is capable of pre-compensating for oscillator phase noise. In the transmitter, an undesired phase noise being generated by a voltage-controlled oscillator can be detected by comparing the output of the voltage-controlled oscillator to a reference oscillator output. The phase can then be detected by calculating a desired number of zero crossings over a given time period, and comparing this value to an actual number of zero crossings detected in the signal generated by the voltage-controlled oscillator over the same period. From this, the phase component can be determined and digitally pre-compensated in a data signal.

  • Patent number: 8824961
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for polling for near field communications (NFC) devices by checking for multiple protocols. A NFC device polls for devices by first maintaining an unmodulated carrier field active for a specific period of time. The NFC device then polls using a first modulation and waits for a response. If there is no response, and without again maintaining another unmodulated carrier field for a specific period of time, the NFC device polls using a second modulation that is greater than the first modulation and waits again for a response.

  • Patent number: 8823435
Abstract: Various circuit techniques for implementing ultra high speed circuits use current-controlled CMOS (C3MOS) logic fabricated in conventional CMOS process technology. An entire family of logic elements including inverter/buffers, level shifters, NAND, NOR, XOR gates, latches, flip-flops and the like are implemented using C3MOS techniques. Optimum balance between power consumption and speed for each circuit application is achieve by combining high speed C3MOS logic with low power conventional CMOS logic. The combined C3MOS/CMOS logic allows greater integration of circuits such as high speed transceivers used in fiber optic communication systems.

  • Patent number: 8823144
Abstract: An interface substrate is disclosed which includes an interposer having through-semiconductor vias. An upper and a lower organic substrate are further built around the interposer. The disclosed interface substrate enables the continued use of low cost and widely deployed organic substrates for semiconductor packages while providing several advantages. The separation of the organic substrate into upper and lower substrates enables the cost effective matching of fabrication equipment. By providing an opening in one of the organic substrates, one or more semiconductor dies may be attached to exposed interconnect pads coupled to through-semiconductor vias of the interposer, enabling the use of flip chips with high-density microbump arrays and the accommodation of dies with varied bump pitches. • Patent number: 8824992
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for wireless local area network (WLAN) phase shifter training are presented. Aspect of the system may enable a receiving station, at which is located a plurality of receiving antennas, to estimate the relative phase at which each of the receiving antennas receives signals from a transmitting station. This process may be referred to as phase shifter training. After determining the relative phase for each of the receiving antennas, the receiving station may process received signals by phase shifting the signals received via each of the receiving antennas in accordance with the relative phase shifts determined during the phase shifter training process. Signals received via a selected one of the receiving antennas may be unshifted. The processed signals may be combined to generate a diversity reception signal.

  • Patent number: 8826094
Abstract: Accumulating LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) decoder. The accumulating decoding architecture described herein is applicable to LDPC codes operating on a parity check matrix, H, consisting of CSI (Cyclic Shifted Identity) sub-matrices (or matrix sub-blocks) or permuted identity sub-matrices (or matrix sub-blocks). In such a structure, the entire LDPC matrix is broken into square sub-matrices such that each sub-matrix consists of either a CSI sub-matrix or a permuted identity sub-matrix, or a null matrix. The iterative decoding process operates by updating of APP (a posteriori probability) or gamma (?) values and check edge message (?) values, and this by updating one or more individual rows within a number of sub-matrix rows (or all sub-matrix or sub-block rows) are processed in parallel. The amount of parallelism is specified by the designer and is typically an integer divisor of the sub-matrix (or sub-block) size.

  • Patent number: 8823586
Abstract: A combined GNSS and FM receiver receives FM signals comprising satellite navigation data from an AGNSS server. Associated navigation information such as a position fix is determined based on the received satellite navigation data. The received satellite navigation data are GNSS assistance data or LTO data. The AGNSS server generates the satellite navigation data by acquiring GNSS data from a satellite reference network. The acquired GNSS data comprise, for example, GPS data, GLONASS data and/or GALILEO data. The generated satellite navigation data are broadcasted as FM signals through RDS and/or RBDS to the combined GNSS and FM receiver. The combined GNSS and FM receiver receives updated satellite navigation data in subsequent FM signals, periodically or aperiodically, and updates associated navigation information, accordingly. The combined GNSS and FM receiver decodes the received FM radio signals for the updated satellite navigation data generated at the AGNSS server before being transmitted.

  • Patent number: 8823585
Abstract: A GNSS enabled mobile device moves from a first area where GNSS signal quality and/or level is above a threshold to a second area where GNSS signal quality and/or level is below the threshold. The GNSS enabled mobile device in the second area determines its own location utilizing previous GNSS measurements in the first area. GNSS signals are received to calculate GNSS measurements whenever the GNSS enabled mobile device is in the first area. The calculated GNSS measurements are utilized to determine a location of the GNSS enabled mobile device within the first area. The GNSS enabled mobile device in the second area utilizes the most current GNSS measurements in the first area to determine its own location. Sensors such as an image sensor, a light sensor, an audio sensor and/or a location sensor are used to refine the location of the GNSS enabled mobile device in the second area.

  • Patent number: 8824988
Abstract: A method for reciprocal-mixing noise cancellation may include receiving a baseband signal down-converted to baseband using a local oscillator (LO). The baseband signal may comprise a wanted signal and a reciprocal mixing noise, which at least partially overlaps the wanted signal and is due to mixing of a blocker signal with a phase noise of the LO. Blocker recovery may be performed on the baseband signal and a blocker estimate signal may be generated from the baseband signal. The phase noise of the LO may be measured and used in generating a phase noise measurement signal. The blocker estimate signal and the phase noise measurement signal may be processed to generate a reconstructed noise signal that may comprise the overlapping reciprocal mixing noise. The reconstructed noise signal may be subtracted from the baseband signal to provide the wanted signal free from to the reciprocal mixing noise.
