Publication number: 20140233679Abstract: An auxiliary reduced power analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is provided for use during sleep periods of a receiver. The auxiliary ADC has a reduced dynamic range but sufficient accuracy to allow demodulation of signaling information contained in an input signal and to update control parameters used for synchronization and channel estimation. As such, a main higher power, higher dynamic range ADC can be turned off during sleep periods, reducing receiver power consumption. The main ADC is turned on at the end of a sleep period, and the receiver can be ready for receiving data immediately using the main ADC because the control parameters are maintained up to date during the sleep period using the auxiliary ADC.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 2013Publication date: August 21, 2014Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Ravikiran RAJAGOPAL, Jeffrey Scott PUTNAM, Ramon GOMEZ

Publication number: 20140233573Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for performing out-of-order message filtering with aging. The system and method can be used in a destination device that can receive messages out-of-order (i.e., in a different order than they were transmitted) from a source device. The system and method can filter-out or flag for appropriate handling these messages received out-of-order. To perform the above noted message filtering functionality, the system and method uses a database constructed from a content-addressable memory (CAM) and a random-access memory (RAM) to respectively remember source identifiers and sequence identifiers associated with previously received messages. A source identifier identifies the source of a message, and a sequence identifier identifies the transmission order of the message among the messages transmitted from the particular source. Each message can include a source identifier and a corresponding sequence identifier.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2013Publication date: August 21, 2014Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Itay ADMON, Golan Schzukin, Amir Levy, Alex Kertsman

Publication number: 20140237118Abstract: A network device manages elephant flows. The network device filters received network data according to an application-specific criteria and identifies the elephant flow from the filtered network data. To do so, the network device can employ a multi-stage filtering process to identify an elephant flow in the received network data. The network device separates the filtered network data into multiple macroflows using a first hash function, and identifies the macroflow with the highest rate. Then, the network device disaggregates the high rate macroflow into multiple microflows using a second hash function and identifies the highest rate microflow as the elephant flow. The network device maintains an elephant flow cache with entries for currently identified elephant flows. The network device may also take management actions on the elephant flows, and the management actions may be application specific.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2013Publication date: August 21, 2014Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: William Brad Matthews

Publication number: 20140233439Abstract: Uplink and downlink traffic for a plurality of user equipments UEs in a cell is differentially weighted according to traffic type, and that weighted traffic total is used to select one uplink-downlink configuration for a radio frame from among A>1 possible uplink-downlink configurations. The weighting may use a priority factor or traffic class identifier that corresponds to the traffic type. In one embodiment the configuration selection is autonomous, and may be made to maximize throughput in the cell or to minimize a number of subframes that overlap with neighbor cells. In another embodiment there is a cooperation; one access node selects multiple candidate configurations which its neighbor cells score for their own acceptability and return the score tables to the original access node, who makes the final selection using the neighbors' score tables. Specific examples are in the context of the E-UTRAN/LTE system.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2011Publication date: August 21, 2014Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Wei Hong, Haiming Wang, Chunyan Gao, Jing Han

Publication number: 20140237268Abstract: Aspects of shutdown control of a device in the presence of moisture are described. In one embodiment, a moisture detection signal is received from a moisture detector. In turn, certain parameters associated with the moisture detector are identified. For example, the location of the moisture detector may be identified. Additionally or alternatively, a probability for damage to the device, based on the location of the moisture detector, may be identified. An evaluation of the moisture detection signal and the identified parameters is performed. Based on the evaluation, one of various power down procedures for the device may be initiated. Patent number: 8811271Abstract: In a satellite gateway, data is transmitted over a downstream channel at different throughput rates. Data destined for each subscriber/receiver is assigned a throughput rate depending upon the downstream signal quality of that subscriber/receiver. The downstream data is parsed to extract data packets. The data packets are then loaded into packet queues based on an identifier within such packets. The queues represent a bandwidth efficiency or throughput rate that can be currently tolerated by specific subscribers that may also be based on the current signal quality at a subscriber location. The parsed data traffic is processed based on the profile of the plurality of profiles to produce processed data traffic, and transmitted from the packet queues over a downstream channel.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2013Date of Patent: August 19, 2014Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Mark Dale, Anders Hebsgaard, David Hartman, Alan Kwentus, Steven Jaffe, Kelly Cameron, Stephen Krafft, Alan Gin, Jen-chieh (Jack) Chien, Dorothy Lin, Rocco Brescia, Joyce Wang
