Patent number: 9331793Abstract: Automotive area networks (AAN) have a substantially fixed network topology, meaning that the physical media used for communications between devices included in the AAN is known. For example, the physical connections within an AAN, sometimes provided by wiring harnesses, can include fixed lengths of twisted pairs of wire (“twisted pairs”). Pre-compensation parameters related to characteristics of the twisted pairs can be determined at the factory, and loaded into the memory of devices connected to the AAN. These pre-compensation parameters are used to improve the fast wake up and link acquisition times of connected devices. Various characteristics of the physical communication channel are measured or estimated as a function of mechanical, ingress, climactic, and environmental variations (MICE), and used to update the pre-compensation parameters.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2015Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Wael William Diab, Mehmet V. Patent number: 9329871Abstract: System and method for decoding digital video data. The decoding system employs hardware accelerators that assist a core processor in performing selected decoding tasks. The hardware accelerators are configurable to support a plurality of existing and future encoding/decoding formats. The accelerators are configurable to support substantially any existing or future encoding/decoding formats that fall into the general class of DCT-based, entropy decoded, block-motion-compensated compression algorithms. The hardware accelerators illustratively comprise a programmable entropy decoder, an inverse quantization module, a inverse discrete cosine transform module, a pixel filter, a motion compensation module and a de-blocking filter. The hardware accelerators function in a decoding pipeline wherein at any given stage in the pipeline, while a given function is being performed on a given macroblock, the next macroblock in the data stream is being worked on by the previous function in the pipeline.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2012Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Alexander G. Patent number: 9331742Abstract: A system for driving a first signal onto a wireline includes a driver and feedback circuitry. The driver drives a deterministic signal onto the wireline with an unknown impedance load. The feedback circuitry measures a quality of the output signal from the wireline and modifies a gain of the first signal based on the quality of the output signal. The driver then drives the first signal onto the wireline with the modified gain.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2014Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: Broadcom Europe LimitedInventor: Jonathan Ephraim David Hurwitz

Patent number: 9330675Abstract: Unlike sound based pressure waves that go everywhere, air turbulence caused by wind is usually a fairly local event. Therefore, in a system that utilizes two or more spatially separated microphones to pick up sound signals (e.g., speech), wind noise picked up by one of the microphones often will not be picked up (or at least not to the same extent) by the other microphone(s). Embodiments of methods and apparatuses that utilize this tact and others to effectively detect and suppress wind noise using multiple microphones that are spatially separated are described.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2011Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Xianxian Zhang, Juin-Hwey Chen, Huaiyu Zeng, Jes Thyssen

Patent number: 9332283Abstract: Signaling of prediction size unit in accordance with video coding. In accordance with video coding, various binarization may be performed. In accordance with coding related to different types of slices (e.g., I, P, B slices), one or more binary trees may be employed for performing various respective operations (e.g., coding unit (CU) prediction and prediction unit (PU) partition mode operations). In one implementation, a common or singular binary tree is employed to encode jointly CU prediction and PU partition mode in a single syntax element for both P slices and B slices. That is to say, in such an implementation, instead of employing different respective binary trees for at least these different respective processes/operations, a common or single binary tree may be employed for them both. Appropriate coordination between and encoder/transmitter device and a decoder/receiver device may be performed to ensure appropriate handling of different respective phases of video coding.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2012Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Peisong Chen, Brian Heng, Wade K.
