Abstract: Smart meter media access control (MAC) for single user, multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. Different types of wireless communication devices may be implemented within various wireless communication systems. Some of these devices may be implemented to communicate sensing and/or measurement to one or more other devices. For example, certain devices may be implemented to perform monitoring associated with any of a number of services provided by service providers (e.g., electricity, natural gas, water, Internet access, telephone service, and/or any other service). In accordance with such sensing and/or measurement related applications, a given device need not necessarily be awake or at a fully operative state at all times. Appropriate coordination, scheduling, communication medium access, etc. among potentially many implemented devices ensures effective communication and gathering of such sensing and/or measurement related data (e.g.

  • Patent number: 9323311
Abstract: In an Ethernet network comprising link partners that are coupled via an Ethernet link, an energy efficient network (EEN) communication control policy may be established above a MAC layer. The EEN control policy may determine a power level mode of operation for the link partners. Power level mode control data may be communicated from hardware, software and/or firmware of upper layer protocols to PHY devices. The control data may specify when, where and/or how long to implement the power level mode. The control data may be communicated via a “magic” packet comprising start and/or end of frame delimiters and bits that indicate the power level mode. The PHY devices may detect, parse and/or interpret the “magic” packet and may enter and/or exit a lower power mode of operation. The PHY devices may respond to by generating a magic packet and sending the packet to upper layers.

  • Patent number: 9325350
Abstract: A communication device is configured to encode information bits using one or more forward error correction (FEC) codes and/or error correction codes (ECCs) to generate different codewords (e.g., codeword groups having different lengths, based on different code rates, etc.). The device generates a combined codeword using different sized codewords (e.g., long, medium, and short) by filling fills long codewords completely if possible, then filling medium codewords completely if possible with the remaining message bits (if any), and filling short codewords completely if possible plus another additional short codeword with the remaining message bits (if any). If the total number of short (or medium and short) codeword parity bits is greater than or equal to the number of medium (or long) codeword parity bits, then the device increments the number of medium (or long) codewords by one and setting the number of short (or medium and short) codewords to zero.

  • Patent number: 9322924
Abstract: A frequency synthesizer in a GNSS receiver chip enables duty cycling operation of the frequency synthesizer. The frequency synthesizer is cycled on to generate required clock signals for the GNSS receiver chip, and cycled off during a measurement duty cycle comprising measurement available intervals and measurement unavailable intervals. A reference clock inputted to the frequency synthesizer is on during the measurement duty-cycle. During the measurement available intervals, the frequency synthesizer is cycled on to generate the required clock based on the reference clock. During the measurement unavailable intervals, the frequency synthesizer is cycled off and clock timing is maintained based on the reference clock. A number of elapsed clock cycles of the reference clock is captured for a measurement unavailable interval and transferred to a clock offset. The GNSS receiver chip processes signals received using the required clock and the clock offset in a following measurement available interval.

  • Publication number: 20160112175
Abstract: In an ad hoc network a feedback radio resource maps from a data radio resource to at least one frequency sub-band which the data resource excludes. The feedback resource is also spaced in time from the data resource by a predetermined interval. Feedback (ACK/NACK) for data received in the data resource is then sent in the feedback resource. In various embodiments the sub-band is one or more edges of the data resource channel, or edges of a component carrier. The predetermined interval may be a function of how much of the data resource is occupied by data. The data transmitting device delays sending its data by a time offset from the end of a previous transmission on that channel, or if it does not know the end time it delays until the predetermined interval plus the length of the feedback resource have lapsed. Various synchronization aspects are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20160109580
Abstract: A combined GPS and GLONASS receiver receives GPS signals and GLONASS signals. A calibration signal is generated utilizing the received GPS signals and/or the received GLONASS signals to offset group delay errors in the received GLONASS signals. The generated calibration signal is filtered through Kalman filters to estimate group delay variations in the received GLONASS signals. The estimated group error delay variations are combined with the received GLONASS signals to calibrate the received GLONASS signals by offsetting the estimated group error delay variations. When GPS signals are not available for use, the combined GPS and GLONASS receiver obtains group delay errors stored or in the received GLONASS signals to estimate calibration coefficients. The estimate calibration coefficients are updated utilizing received GPS and/or GLONASS signals.
