  • Patent number: 7983335
Abstract: An Inverse Transform (IT) conforming to MPEG AVC I_PCM that offers better video image quality than the MPEG-2/H.263 based video decoders and real time motion picture processing at 30 frames/seconds is described. The IT module performs 4×4 Inverse Integer transform for AVC for MPEG-2 operations on a given macro block (MB) and all its sub blocks. The IT is the third module in the data flow pipeline of a video decoder, the first two being a variable length decoder (VLD) and an inverse quantizer (IQ). The IT module gets its inputs from IQ module and feeds its processed output to a Motion compensation unit/intra-prediction (MCU-IP) module, thus reconstructing the video picture.

  • Patent number: 7982321
Abstract: An integrated circuit containing multiple modules coupled to a pad via a multiplexer. The modules are selectively coupled to the pad by the multiplexer to provide integrated circuit function flexibility with a limited number of pads. A multiplexer select signal determines which module or clock circuit is coupled by the multiplexer. A common buffer may be coupled between the multiplexer and the pad to save substrate space. An analog circuit may be coupled to the pad to provide a signal path minimizing signal distortion. The integrated circuit's clock may be coupled via the multiplexer to an off-substrate circuit. Selective module coupling improves the integrated circuit's testing speed, may salvage an integrated circuit containing a malfunctioning module, and provides for signal loopback during testing.

  • Patent number: 7983333
Abstract: An equalizer is disclosed that compensates for non-linear effects resulting from a transmitter, a receiver, and/or a communication channel in a communication system. A non-linear decision feedback equalizer compensates for the non-linear effects impressed onto a received symbol by selecting between equalization coefficients based upon a previous received symbol. The received symbol may be represented in form of logic signals based on the binary number system. The two symbols most commonly chosen to represent the two logic values taken on by binary symbols are binary zero and binary one. When the previous received symbol is a binary zero, the non-linear decision feedback equalizer selects an equalization coefficient corresponding to binary zero to compensate for the non-linear effects impressed onto the received symbol.

  • Patent number: 7983644
Abstract: An apparatus and method for local oscillator calibration compensates for filter passband variation in a mixer circuit, such as a receiver circuit. The receiver includes at least a mixer circuit and a filter coupled to the output of the mixer. During operation, the mixer mixes an RF input signal with a first local oscillator (LO) signal to frequency translate a selected channel in the RF input signal into the passband of the filter. During a calibration mode, the RF input signal is disabled, and the first LO signal is injected into the filter input by leaking the first LO signal through the mixer circuit. The frequency of the LO signal is then swept over a frequency bandwidth that is sufficiently wide so that the actual passband is detected by measuring the signal amplitude at the output of the bandpass filter, thereby determining any variation in the passband of the filter from the expected passband.

  • Patent number: 7983322
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for codebook design of MIMO pre-coders with finite rate channel state information feedback may include quantizing channel state information in a MIMO pre-coding system onto a codebook, which include unitary matrices, using a cost function. The codebook may be iteratively updated based on at least the channel state information. The channel state information may comprise a matrix V. The cost function f(A) is defined by the following relationship: f ? ( A ) = ( 1 N ? ? j = 1 N ? ? ? a jj ? 2 ) where A is a matrix of size N by N and aij is element (i,j) of matrix A. Voronoi regions may be generated from the codebook for the unitary matrices. A set of matrices based on the Voronoi regions and the unitary matrices may be generated. Updating the codebook may be achieved by modifying the set of matrices into a new set of unitary matrices, where the new set of unitary matrices become the codebook.
