Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing trellis coded modulation of signals for transmission on a TDMA channel of a cable network, such as a DOCSIS cable network, is provided. In an embodiment, an upstream modulator portion of a cable modem receives burst data, selectively encodes the burst data for trellis coded modulation to generate encoded symbols, and modulates the encoded symbols for selective transmission over a time division multiple access (TDMA) channel or a synchronous code division multiple access (S-CDMA) channel of the cable network.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for using explicit initialization vectors in both encryption and decryption processing. In one example, a sender generates an initialization vector, identifies cryptographic keys, encrypts data using the initialization vectors and the cryptographic keys, and transmits the encrypted data in a packet along with the initialization vector. A receiver identifies cryptographic keys, extracts the initialization vector from the received packet, and decrypts the encrypted data using the cryptographic keys and the initialization vector extracted from the received packet.

Abstract: Described herein is a method and system for sampling rate conversion. A clamped cubic spline interpolator (CCSI) may be utilized to interpolate or decimate a source signal to provide samples at times based on a sink rate. The source clock and sink clock may be driven by independent oscillators, and may therefore drift independently. A rate tracking algorithm may monitor the relative drift and adjust the conversion of the source signal to track the sink rate.
Abstract: An ESD device includes a low doped well connected to a first contact and a diffusion area connected to a second contact. A substrate between the low doped well and the diffusion area has a dopant polarity that is opposite a dopant polarity of the low doped well and the diffusion area. A distance between the low doped well and the diffusion area determines a triggering voltage of the ESD device. A depletion region is formed between the low doped well and the substrate when a reverse bias voltage is applied to the ESD device. A current discharging path is formed between the first contact and the second contact when the depletion region comes in to contact with the diffusion area. The substrate is biased by a connection to the second contact. Alternatively, an additional diffusion area with the same dopant polarity, connected to a third contact, biases the substrate.
Abstract: A multiprocessor switching device substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described in connection with a descriptor write back timer mechanism for use in efficiently writing descriptors back to memory after transmitting data under control of the descriptors to inform the processor(s) about system-related functions for a plurality of channels. A timing interval pulse is provided for prompting descriptor write back operations that are otherwise subject to a minimum descriptor count requirement.
Abstract: An emulation-based event-wait simulator including an application module to configure and command verification processes on a design under test (DUT). An event dispatcher is in communication with the application module to deliver commands to the DUT. A plurality of transactors are in communication with the event dispatcher to forward the commands to the DUT. A channel controller is in communication with the transactors to process and forward the commands to the DUT, wherein the channel controller also receives messages from the DUT, processes the messages, and forwards the messages to the transactors for delivery to the event dispatcher and the application module.

Abstract: A method for synchronizing counters in a wireless terminal device with those of an administrative device. With each increment of the frame counter in a wireless terminal device, the wireless device minislot counter advances by an amount equal to the number of minislots per frame. Likewise, with each increment of the frame counter, the wireless device's timestamp counter is incremented by the number of timestamps per frame. This continues until the counters at the wireless device are within one frame of the administrative device's counters. The minislot counter is then incremented. With each increment of the minislot counter, the timestamp counter is incremented by an amount equal to the number of timestamps per minislot. This continues until the wireless devices counters are within a minislot of the administrative device's counters. The timestamp counter is then incremented until the wireless device's counters match those of the administrative device.
Abstract: A hierarchical communication system, arranged in a spanning tree configuration, is described in which wired and wireless communication networks exhibiting substantially different characteristics are employed in an overall scheme to link portable or mobile computing devices. Copies of data, program code and processing resources are migrated from their source toward requesting destinations based on request frequency, communication link costs and available local storage and/or processing resources. Each appropriately configured network device acts as an active participant in network migration. In addition, portable two-dimensional (2-D) code reading terminals are configured to wirelessly communicate compressed 2-D images toward stationary access servers that identify the code image through decoding and through comparison with a database of images that have previously been decoded and stored.

Abstract: A method of executing instructions in a computer system on operands containing a plurality of packed objects in respective lanes of the operand is described. Each instruction defines an operation and contains a condition setting indicator settable independently of the operation. The status of the condition setting indicator determines whether or not multibit condition codes are set. When they are to be set, they are set depending on the results for carrying out the operation for each lane.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for testing at least one critical data path in a design of a digital integrated circuit chip during a simulation of the design. A dedicated memory-bypass-enable signal is provided to a memory-bypass-logic circuit of the design during test modes of the simulation. Data content of a memory circuit within the critical data path is protected, using the dedicated memory-bypass-enable signal, during part of a path-delay test mode of the simulation. The memory circuit is also bypassed using the memory-bypass-enable signal during a memory-bypass test mode of the simulation.

Abstract: A network interface is presented that receives packet data from a shared medium and accomplishes the signal processing required to convert the data packet to host computer formatted data separately from receiving the data packet. The network interface receives the data packet, converts the analog signal to a digitized signal, and stores the resulting sample packet in a storage queue. An off-line processor, which may be the host computer itself, performs the signal processing required to interpret the sample packet. In transmission, the off-line process converts host-formatted data to a digitized version of a transmission data packet and stores that in a transmission queue. A transmitter converts the transmission data packet format and transmits the data to the shared medium.
