Abstract: A device for common mode (CM) clamping in wired communication includes a first circuit and a second circuit. The first circuit is configured to sense a voltage signal across clamp terminals and to generate an output voltage signal based on the sensed voltage signal. The second circuit is configured to compare the output voltage signal with a reference voltage, to generate a pair of current signals based on a result of the comparison, and to provide the pair of current signals to the clamp terminals. The pair of current signals includes a matched pair of CM current signals. The clamp terminals, upon coupling to nodes of a main circuit provide a desired CM impedance between the nodes of the main circuit. The device can be coupled to the main circuit in conjunction with one or more off-chip magnetic components.

  • Publication number: 20150303172
Abstract: Reconstitution techniques for semiconductor packages are provided. One reconstitution technique is used to encapsulate a plurality of semiconductor packages into a single multi-chip module. Solder balls coupled to each package may be partially exposed after reconstitution, which enables the packages to be coupled to another device. Another reconstitution technique is used to couple a plurality of semiconductor packages into a package-on-package module using self-alignment feature(s). The self-alignment feature(s) are exposed solder ball(s) that are included in the bottom package of the package-on-package module. The exposed solder ball(s) serve as a frame of reference to other solder balls that are encapsulated by an encapsulation material. After the location of these other solders balls are determined, through-mold vias may be formed in the encapsulation material at locations corresponding to the other solder balls.

  • Publication number: 20150305065
Abstract: A new random access procedure is introduced that does not use a timing advance for the uplink timing but instead uses the downlink timing for uplink timing. This is particularly viable when the propagation delay is short, for example with local area cells having a coverage range less than some predetermined threshold. From the mobile terminal's perspective it obtains downlink timing for a cell, transmits a scheduling request SR in a contention-based uplink resource, and in response to receiving an uplink resource allocation it transmits in the allocated uplink resource using the downlink timing. The terminal can get the configuration for that contention-based uplink resource from system information. From the uplink resource the terminal and network determines a SR-RNTI, which the network uses to address the uplink resource allocation and the terminal uses to find a pre-defined search space in which to look for that uplink resource allocation.

  • Patent number: 9166831
Abstract: An asymmetric PHY pair for communicating over a point-to-point link is disclosed. The PHY pair is asymmetric in that the signal processing power used by one of the PHYs to communicate a unit of data over the link is made to be less than that of the other PHY. This asymmetry is accomplished not merely by reducing the signal processing power of one of the PHYs at the expense of the rate at which symbols can be communicated over the link, but by transferring the signal processing power from one of the PHYs to the other PHY so that the symbol rate can be substantially maintained as compared to the symbol rate of a symmetric PHY pair. The asymmetric PHY pair can be advantageously implemented in many different types of communication systems (i.e., in communication systems where one end is more congested and/or crowded than the other end).

  • Patent number: 9167056
Abstract: A mobile device of a user discovers topological information about electronic devices in a premise environment, and shares such information with a media gateway. The media gateway uses the topological information to augment content from a server, such as a web page that supports access to media content, to add graphical objects corresponding to those electronic devices in proximity to the mobile device that are capable of reproducing the streaming media content. Selection of the one of the add-on graphical objects causes delivery of the media content to the corresponding electronic device instead of the display of the mobile device. In this manner, a more natural selection mechanism than that available using conventional pull-down lists of options is provided.

  • Patent number: 9167514
Abstract: A communication device, such as a smart phone, includes an envelope tracking power supply that provides a voltage supply signal for a power amplifier. The envelope tracking signal input to the envelope tracking power supply arises from application of a shaping table on a desired transmit signal. The shaping table implements non-uniform gain compression across a range of output powers, and in particular may aggressively compress the power amplifier for low output powers, and less aggressively compress the power amplifier at high output powers. The non-uniform gain implemented via the shaping table may provide significant power savings, while still allowing the transmitter to meet spectral mask requirements.

  • Patent number: 9167377
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed to compensate for overshoot and/or undershoot in a transmission sequence by shaping the transmission sequence according to a shaping envelope to lengthen its rise time and/or fall time to provide a modified transmission sequence. • Patent number: 9167621
Abstract: A communication device includes antennas to receive a first signal from a remote device, wherein the first signal corresponds to a first operational mode. A baseband processor selects either a first operational mode for transmitting a second signal or a second operational mode for transmitting the second signal. When the second operational mode is selected the baseband processor transforms the phase-related information corresponding to the first operational mode to transformed phase-related information corresponding to the second operational mode. The antennas transmit the second signal to the remote device in accordance with the transformed phase-related information corresponding to the second operational mode.
