Patent number: 9165148Abstract: Methods, devices, systems and computer program products are provided to facilitate cryptographically secure retrieval of secret information that is embedded in a device. The embedded secret information can include a random number that is not custom-designed for any specific requestor of the secret information. Upon receiving a request for the embedded secret information, an encrypted secret is provided to the requestor that enables the recovery of the embedded secret information by only the requestor. Moreover, a need for maintenance of a database of the embedded secret information and the associated requestors is eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2013Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Andrew Dellow

Patent number: 9167005Abstract: A method and system are provided in which a broadband gateway may enable a guest or visitor to access content available to the broadband gateway. The content may be received by the broadband gateway through one or more of a plurality of network access service providers that may provide separate physical layer access to the broadband gateway. After a visitor's device is connected to the broadband gateway, the broadband gateway may classify the device. Based on the classification, the device may be authorized to access a portion of the content received. Once the authorization process is complete, the appropriate content may be made available and transferred to the device. The authorization process may include the authentication of a device identifier and/or a user identifier. The authorized access may be time-limited, but may be renewed or enabled when a request is received within a determined period of time.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2010Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: David Garrett, Jeyhan Karaoguz, Xuemin Chen, Wael William Diab, David Lundgren, Rich Prodan

Publication number: 20150296057Abstract: A communication device is configured to support communications with other devices using a physical layer (PHY)/MAC interface (PMI) protocol. For example, a first device that includes PHY component(s) may be located remotely with respect to one or more other entities that manage and control it. In one example, a second device generates (core receives from another device) a MAC message that is based on the PMI protocol and generates a PHY message based thereon. This first device and then transmits the PHY message to the first device for use by the first device to configure PHY operational parameter(s). Generally, different messages are communicated between devices based on the PMI protocol. The first device, which may generally be referred to as a remote PHY device (RPD), can be managed and controlled by one or more other devices located separately therefrom.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2015Publication date: October 15, 2015Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventor: Yitshak Ohana

Publication number: 20150296328Abstract: The present disclosure describes a mechanical chassis having one or more conductive regions separated by one or more non-conductive regions. When a magnetic field contacts, or is sufficiently proximate to, this communication device, the magnetic field induces one or more eddy currents that flow in one or more closed loops around a surface of the one or more conductive regions. The one or more non-conductive regions confine the one or more eddy currents to the one or more conductive regions. The magnetic fields generated by these one or more eddy currents are weaker than a magnetic field generated by eddy currents in a communication device having a mechanical chassis constructed entirely of conductive material.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 9, 2015Publication date: October 15, 2015Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Reinierus van der LEE, John WALLEY

Patent number: 9160679Abstract: Aspects of port empty transition scheduling are described herein. In one embodiment, when one or more cells are added to a queue in a network communications device, an enqueue indicator is generated. The enqueue indicator identifies a number of cells added to the queue. With reference to the enqueue indicator, a queue scheduler maintains a count of cells enqueued for communication and issues a port pick credit for a port of the network communications device. A port scheduler schedules a pick for communicating over the port with reference to the port pick credit and forwards the pick to the queue scheduler. In turn, the queue scheduler forwards a queue pick to the queue, and at least one of the cells is forwarded to dequeue logic. According to aspects of the embodiments described herein, empty port scheduling inefficiencies may be avoided and network throughput increased.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2013Date of Patent: October 13, 2015Assignee: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Mark David Griswold, Michael Hei-Lung Lau
