Patent number: 7467303Abstract: A method for mutual authorization of a secondary resource in a grid of resource computers is provided. When a primary resource attempts to offload a grid computing job to a secondary resource, the primary resource sends a proxy certificate request to the user machine. Responsive to a proxy certificate request, the user machine performs authorization with the secondary resource. If authorization with the secondary resource is successful, the user machine generates and returns a valid proxy certificate. The primary resource then performs mutual authentication with the secondary resource. If the authorization with the secondary resource fails, the user machine generates and returns an invalid proxy certificate. Mutual authentication between the primary resource and the secondary resource will fail due to the invalid proxy certificate. The primary resource then selects another secondary resource and repeats the process until a resource is found that passes the mutual authorization with the user machine.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2004Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Susann Marie Keohane, Gerald Francis McBrearty, Shawn Patrick Mullen, Jessica Kelley Murillo, Johnny Meng-Han Shieh

Patent number: 7466986Abstract: A WIFI-enabled and GPS-enabled user device executes a hotspot location utility, which enables the device to detect WIFI hotspots and update a locally-stored hotspot location database (LHLD) containing geographically-mapped hotspots. When a hotspot is detected, the device accesses the hotspot, retrieves identification information and usage terms from the hotspot, and measures performance metrics of the hotspot. The utility stores the identified hotspot with the current GPS coordinate as an entry within the LHLD. When a user later desires to locate hotspots within a particular geographic location, the user enters the physical address of the location, and hotspots with matching (or proximate) GPS coordinates of the entered address are presented to the user. The user may specify certain preferences for usage terms, performance metrics, and location criteria, and the utility filters all geographic hits and returns only hotspots in the geographic location that also satisfy these preferences.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2006Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael Austin Halcrow, Dustin Kirkland

Patent number: 7467399Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for achieving context-sensitive confidentiality within a federated environment for which content is aggregated in a distributed Web portal (or similar aggregation framework), ensuring that message portions that should be confidential are confidential to all entities in the federated environment except those entities to which the message portions may properly be divulged. The federation may comprise an arbitrary number of autonomous security domains, and these security domains may have independent trust models and authentication services. Using the disclosed techniques, messages can be routed securely within a cross-domain federation (irrespective of routing paths), thereby ensuring that confidential information is not exposed to unintended third parties and that critical information is not tampered with while in transit between security domains. Preferred embodiments leverage Web services techniques and a number of industry standards.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2004Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Anthony J. Patent number: 7465649Abstract: A multi-layered gate electrode stack structure of a field effect transistor device is formed on a silicon nano crystal seed layer on the gate dielectric. The small grain size of the silicon nano crystal layer allows for deposition of a uniform and continuous layer of poly-SiGe with a [Ge] of up to at least 70% using in situ rapid thermal chemical vapor deposition (RTCVD). An in-situ purge of the deposition chamber in a oxygen ambient at rapidly reduced temperatures results in a thin SiO2 or SixGeyOz interfacial layer of 3 to 4 A thick. The thin SiO2 or SixGeyOz interfacial layer is sufficiently thin and discontinuous to offer little resistance to gate current flow yet has sufficient [O] to effectively block upward Ge diffusion during heat treatment to thereby allow silicidation of the subsequently deposited layer of cobalt. The gate electrode stack structure is used for both nFETs and pFETs.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2007Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Kevin K. Patent number: 7466164Abstract: A configurable, low power high fan-in multiplexer (MUX) is disclosed. The MUX circuit includes multiple current control elements, which each include multiple inverters coupled to a transmission gate. Each current control element receives a data signal and a select signal that corresponds to the data signal. If a select signal exceeds a threshold value (e.g., a logical “1”), the select signal deactivates a pull-up transistor (e.g., a p-type field effect transistor), and the transmission gate enables the corresponding data signal to provide input to a logic gate (e.g., a NAND gate) coupled to the output of the MUX. If the select signal does not exceed the threshold value, the select signal activates the pull-up transistor, and the transmission gate prevents the corresponding data signal from providing input to the logic gate.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2007Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Owen Chiang, Christopher M. Patent number: 7466687Abstract: A method and system for encoding a set of range labels for each parameter field in a packet classification key in such a way as to require preferably only a single entry per rule in a final processing stage of a packet classifier. Multiple rules are sorted accorded to their respective significance. A range, based on a parameter in the packet header, is previously determined. Multiple rules are evaluated according to an overlapping of rules according to different ranges. Upon a determination that two or more rules overlap, each overlapping rule is expanded into multiple unique segments that identify unique range intersections. Each cluster of overlapping ranges is then offset so that at least one bit in a range for the rule remains unchanged. The range segments are then converted from binary to Gray code, which results in the ability to determine a CAM entry to use for each range.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2003Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Claude Basso, Jean Louis Calvignac, Gordon Taylor Davis, Clark Debs Jeffries
