  • Patent number: 6373230
Abstract: An alternator generates output power at two or more independent voltages. The alternator has two independent output windings configured to generate the power needed for each output. Each output voltage is sensed by a regulator that controls switching rectifiers to supply the current needed to satisfy the electric power demand of the loads connected to each output. After both output load demands are satisfied, the regulator switches off the alternator field. When power demand from either load rises, the alternator field is switched on along with the respective switching rectifier to satisfy the power demand. The output voltage grounds and control signals may be electrically isolated from each other.

  • Patent number: 6347554
Abstract: This assembly is a torque measuring device that measures the torque output a tool is producing. A hollow torsion tube connects the tool to a reaction arm through the assembly. A torque transducer is attached to the side of the torsion tube. The ends of the torque transducer are attached in a way that transfers the torque output of the tool to the torsion tube. The transducer produces an electrical signal directly proportional to the amount of twisting that occurs in the torsion tube and transducer. A handle also is attached to the torsion tube in a way that allows the handle to rotate 360° around the torsion tube. Since the operator holds the handle instead of the tool, the operators influence on the tool's torque output is removed, increasing the accuracy of the device.

  • Patent number: 6306214
Abstract: An apparatus and related process for immersing a moving wire within a both of molten metal is applicable to wire forming processes. A flat-bottomed tray has at one end a nozzle for dispersing molten metal across the floor of the tray, from a first end to a second end, in a sheetlike flow. The nozzle preferably includes a slot-like opening, and is associated with a chamber for receiving a supply of pressurized molten metal for discharge through the slot. The metal is discharged with sufficient velocity to create a hydraulic jump or standing wave, whereby the crest of the wave is elevated above the tray end walls. Within the wave, molten metal experiences a turbulent flow in a direction against the travel of the wire array. The wire array passes through the wave, thereby experiencing immersion while being drawn through the apparatus in a straight path without substantial declination.

  • Patent number: 6184661
Abstract: An alternator regulator controls both output voltage and output current, limits input drive power and torque, and maintains output power within a prescribed range while operating over a wide ambient temperature range and shaft speed range. Voltage, shaft speed, and temperature signals are monitored, and the results are processed to determine the output current and to control the output power without exceeding the programmed limits for output voltage, output current, temperature, output power, drive power, torque, and shaft speed. This provides a predictable output power characteristic for the alternator and it eliminates high input drive power and torque excursions that occur at low temperature and certain shaft speeds. If programmed limits are exceeded over a specified interval, and the alternator does not respond to the control changes imposed by the regulator, the regulator will turn off the alternator's field current, activate an alarm circuit, and set fault codes.

  • Patent number: 6176162
Abstract: A screwdriver is disclosed, comprising a removable depth stop which selectably either, when equipped with the depth stop, allows noiseless shutoff or, with the depth stop removed, allows torque-dependent shutoff, without any chattering occurring when the machine continues to run. To this end, an adjustable torque-dependent release clutch is combined with an entrainment clutch of known type, which is additionally preceded by a disconnect clutch, a locking means being provided in order to hold a throwout ring, which forms one of the two elements of the disconnect clutch, in a predetermined position under load. In this way, noiseless operation is ensured after release, both when working with the depth stop and in the case of torque-dependent shutoff, with the depth stop removed.

  • Patent number: 6173792
Abstract: A power-driven screwdriver with a torque-dependent release clutch having two clutch halves is disclosed. The screwdriver comprises additional entrainment elements provided on the clutch halves for bridging the release clutch. To this end, a motor-driven drive gear is mounted to rotate freely on a tool drive shaft and is secured against axial displacement on the housing side while a cam ring can be adjusted axially, together with the tool drive shaft, via an adjusting device. The clutch elements are formed on the respectively facing sides of the drive gear and the cam ring, and the entrainment element are likewise formed, as separate elements, on the respectively facing sides of the drive gear and the cam ring. As a result of the adjusting device axial displacement of the tool drive shaft results either in a rigid through drive, where the release clutch is nonfunctional, or in the torque-dependent release of the release clutch, where the entrainment elements are nonfunctional.
