Abstract: This counting apparatus is a tool monitor and assembly qualifier that verifies that the correct number of fasteners have been properly installed into an assembly. When used in conjunction with a pressure tool, proper fastener torque and count can be verified. The device monitors internal tool pressures and has the ability to "learn" the pressure characteristics of the tool during the assembly process. This assembly qualifier is a device that monitors either the pressure of an air tool, the current of an electrical tool or the torque of a mechanical wrench to determine if the tool shut off at a target torque. The qualifier also determines if some unknown means shuts off the tool.
Abstract: A computer-aided synthesis and verification tool is provided for modeling a digital device at a behavioral level and for synthesizing to a structural level utilizing user-defined attributes. The behavioral level is represented as a Data Dependency Graph (DDG) having a plurality of operations (shown as nodes) and operands (shown as arcs) which connect the nodes. Each operation or node is represented as a graphical icon, wherein the icon can have user-defined attributes associated with it. The attributes, nodes, and arcs are compiled and reduced to a Register Transfer Level (RTL) simulation model compatible with present VHDL and Verilog formats. Conversion from a behavioral model to an RTL model includes monitoring the internal states at rising clock edges and constructing states, events and event transistions (i.e., control path information) for each data value in the matrix of values within the data path.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for externally and noninvasively determining the temperatures of chemical reactions inside a plurality of separate closed vessels that are made of materials that substantially transparent to microwave radiation but that are poor conductors of heat. The method comprises exposing a plurality of substantially microwave-transparent of vessels containing chemical reagents therein to microwave radiation, concurrently measuring the temperature of the reagents inside a first vessel using a first temperature sensor inside the first vessel and while measuring the temperature of the exterior of the first vessel using a second temperature sensor positioned externally to the first vessel, and immediately thereafter successively measuring the temperature of the exterior of the remainder of the vessels using the second sensor.

Abstract: A microprocessor-based voltage regulator for an alternator reduces battery drain by removing current from the field coil during times when the alternator is not rotating, as indicated by an AC Sense signal responsive to one of the windings of the alternator prior to rectification. The field coil switch is controlled by the microprocessor to one of four duty cycles to provide effective voltage regulation with a minimum of additional hardware. The microprocessor generates a warning signal in the event of a non-standard operating condition such as drifting voltage regulation, disconnected batteries, or thermal limits that approach shut down.
Abstract: Genes coding for chimeric proteins activating polymerase III transcription, the chimeric proteins and the use thereof for detecting and analysing protein-protein interactions are described. The chimeric proteins are obtained by fusing a polypeptide which is a polymerase PolIII transcription promoter with a polypeptide which is a first member of a protein-protein interaction pair.

Abstract: A vibration actuator for effecting paging is provided in which a vibrating section of an electroacoustic transducer is driven using low frequencies to collide it against a fixed section, and the vibration generated from the collision is transferred as external vibration. The vibrating section of a coil and the fixed section are bonded via an elastic member provided therebetween. The vibration generated at the time of collision can be effectively increased by flexibly supporting a magnetic circuit composed of a magnet, a yoke, etc. and by driving the magnetic circuit with alternating current which has a polarity. To permit easier assembly and to prevent damage or deterioration in characteristics, it is preferable to provide an annular molded member, which has hook-like projections, around the magnetic circuit and to support the magnetic circuit by a rubber member attached to the hook-like projections.
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring a health condition of an individual. At least one physiological parameter of the individual is measured and measured data is then processed in order to detect a potential danger in the measured parameter. Upon detecting the potential danger, a warning signal representative of the potential danger is generated, and a signal for indicating to the individual to actuate a personal communication unit is provided during a predetermined period of time. Upon actuating the personal communication unit, an information message representative of the warning signal is transmitted to the individual. In the absence of actuating the personal communication unit during the predetermined period of time, data indicative of the warning signal is transmitted to a central monitoring station.
Abstract: A custom simulation engine is provided which operates upon a set of statically scheduled events. The simulation engine is automatically created from a functional description of the integrated circuit design. Each element of each partition within the functional description is analyzed and events related to the element are scheduled. The statically scheduled events are used to produce scheduled source code, which is then compiled to produce the simulation engine. VHDL or Verilog descriptions are similarly automatically created from the functional description. Subsequently, the VHDL or Verilog descriptions are synthesized into a netlist describing a final design of an integrated circuit. The entire process is automatic, and so the simulation engine and the netlist are functionally equivalent by construction. No simulation of the VHDL or Verilog descriptions is required as the present simulation engine correctly represents the design. Manual development of a custom simulation engine is eliminated.
Abstract: A strap logo for a user to apply to the strap of a bag, cap, to shoestrings, or other articles having a linearly extended member comprises a logo face rotably attached to arms which encircle the strap and are, in turn, attached to each other by complementary hook and loop fastening means. As constructed, the strap logo may be temporarily attached to a variety of straps and removed at the user's option.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the cordless remote control of a filling function of a mobile vehicle that includes a signal transmitter (12) and a liquid level sensor (14) that is mounted on a tank (18) of a mobile vehicle (16). The liquid level sensor (14) transmits a full signal to a remote signal receiver (22) by way of the signal transmitter (12). The full signal closes a control valve (26) interupting the flow of the fluid to the tank (18) by way of a conduit 28. An adjustable timer (44) provides a system safety back-up signal that closes the valve (26) if the full signal is not received within a preset time period. This apparatus and method can be operated in a semi-automatic mode or an automatic mode by the addition of an adjustable delay clock/timer (42). Audible and/or visual indicators are provided for monitoring the status of the filling operation.
Abstract: A nozzle assembly for use in a cooling tower having a hot water deck including a nozzle body positioned in an opening in the deck, the body having mounted at the bottom thereof a diffusion plate for diffusing water, a vortex crown member telescopically received within said nozzle body, the crown member having an orifice ring which defines an orifice opening through which water passes for engaging the diffusion plate, with the nozzle body and the crown member being locked to the deck when the crown member is fully telescopically received with the nozzle body.
Abstract: An induction cooking heater comprises an inductor, an inductor support comprising a magnetic material and a protective sheet positioned beneath the support in contact with this support. The support is made of a thermally conductive, electrically insulating material to enable the discharge of calorific energy from the inductor to the protective sheet. Furthermore, with the inductor taking the form of a strand of electrically conductive wires in spiral form, the support has a housing on its upper face that is also spiral shaped, adapted to receiving said strand and improving the thermal transfer.
Abstract: An anti-theft security arrangement for the steering column of a motor vehicle includes a clutch which is adapted to resist turning of the steering up to a certain torque but thereafter to slip to avoid damage to the parts while still making control of the vehicle impractical. The clutch is arranged on a parallel axis to the steering column and is connected to the column through a high-ratio gear train comprising a gear wheel fast with the steering column and a pinion fast with the clutch. It is engaged and disengaged by sliding the assembly of clutch and pinion into and out of mesh with the other gear wheel. The clutch includes a rotatable shaft with teeth engaging between spring steel rods so as to turn in a series of discrete jerks if the limiting torque is exceeded.
