  • Publication number: 20090266025
Abstract: A previously formed unitary building exterior envelope product is provided, comprising: a mineral fiber insulation board including a binder having a hydrophobic agent and is resistant to liquid water-penetration and has first and second major surfaces, an exterior facing material, which resists air infiltration and liquid water penetration, laminated to the first major surface, the exterior facing material being permeable to water vapor, and a continuous interior facing laminated to the second major surface, so that the second major surface is resistant to liquid water-penetration and is permeable to water vapor. The section of product is mounted to an exterior side of a plurality of framing members of an exterior wall of a building, so that the interior facing faces the framing members. An exterior layer is mounted to the framing members using a connection device that passes through the section of product, with the facing material facing the exterior layer.

  • Patent number: 7594362
Abstract: A ventilating component for a building, particularly a ventilating soffit, provides a high ratio of ventilation flow area to component coverage area. A sheet in a plane of coverage has a spaced-channel configuration, or alternatively a terraced configuration. Ventilation openings are placed in the connecting webs between the upper and lower levels, especially in sidewalls of elongated channels that open as slots on the exposed side of the soffit. These connecting webs are oriented at an acute angle relative to the coverage plane. In a channel arrangement the webs can be shaped to block direct view of the side walls. The acute angle precludes, or at least foreshortens, a view of the webs that contain the ventilation openings. The ventilation aspects are concealed while permitting a high ratio of flow area to coverage area.

  • Patent number: 7591118
Abstract: A cornice molding cap is provided as an accessory to cover or eliminate gaps created where cornice molding meets at a corner of a building. The cap covers gaps where cornice molding meets at a corner structure formed by two walls. The cap is particularly useful in exterior siding installations at corners not employing corner posts having receiver pockets for cladding material end edges. A method of finishing a corner molding installation is described, as is a system for finishing such installation, and an assembly including a unitary cornice molding corner cap.

  • Patent number: 7507464
Abstract: A variegated polymeric article such as a variegated siding panel having improved depth of color and a three-dimensional appearance is formed having a substantially clear, methacrylic acid based capstock coextruded to a tinted polyvinyl chloride based substrate material. A specially formulated streaker pellet provides accent color streaks within the capstock to simulate a wood grain appearance. The use of a clear capstock material eliminates the need for capstock tinting necessary in the prior art to color match the capstock to the substrate material in post formed variegated vinyl sidings. Titanium dioxide may also be introduced in small amounts to the capstock to provide further ultraviolet light protection to the underlying tinted polyvinyl chloride based substrate material.
