Abstract: Apparatus for making glass fibers has AC induction coils for AC inductive heating of a spinner for spinning molten glass into molten glass fibers, an enclosure that at least partially surrounds the AC induction coils to protect a human worker, and electrically insulating shielding reducing AC power drain by being positioned between the AC induction coils and the enclosure to reduce inductive heating of the enclosure.
Abstract: A package of specialty shingles is provided, preferably for containing hip, ridge or rake shingles, with support in the bottom of the package for the shingles that is complementary to the lower ends of nested, stacked shingles in the package. Shaped constraining devices are provided, for retaining the shape of shingles in the package. An assembly of packages of the specialty shingles is provided, in a tray arrangement, and a pallet assembly of various levels of such packages disposed on a pallet are also provided.

Abstract: A previously formed unitary building exterior envelope product is provided, comprising: a mineral fiber insulation board including a binder having a hydrophobic agent and is resistant to liquid water-penetration and has first and second major surfaces, an exterior facing material, which resists air infiltration and liquid water penetration, laminated to the first major surface, the exterior facing material being permeable to water vapor, and a continuous interior facing laminated to the second major surface, so that the second major surface is resistant to liquid water-penetration and is permeable to water vapor. The section of product is mounted to an exterior side of a plurality of framing members of an exterior wall of a building, so that the interior facing faces the framing members. An exterior layer is mounted to the framing members using a connection device that passes through the section of product, with the facing material facing the exterior layer.

Abstract: A ventilating component for a building, particularly a ventilating soffit, provides a high ratio of ventilation flow area to component coverage area. A sheet in a plane of coverage has a spaced-channel configuration, or alternatively a terraced configuration. Ventilation openings are placed in the connecting webs between the upper and lower levels, especially in sidewalls of elongated channels that open as slots on the exposed side of the soffit. These connecting webs are oriented at an acute angle relative to the coverage plane. In a channel arrangement the webs can be shaped to block direct view of the side walls. The acute angle precludes, or at least foreshortens, a view of the webs that contain the ventilation openings. The ventilation aspects are concealed while permitting a high ratio of flow area to coverage area.
Abstract: A roofing article is prepared by applying a thin metal or metal oxide film to a base substrate. The thin film has greater than about 80 percent transmission of incident radiation having a wavelength between 300 nm and 700 nm and greater that about 60 percent reflectance of incident radiation having a wavelength between 700 nm and 2500 nm.
Abstract: A cornice molding cap is provided as an accessory to cover or eliminate gaps created where cornice molding meets at a corner of a building. The cap covers gaps where cornice molding meets at a corner structure formed by two walls. The cap is particularly useful in exterior siding installations at corners not employing corner posts having receiver pockets for cladding material end edges. A method of finishing a corner molding installation is described, as is a system for finishing such installation, and an assembly including a unitary cornice molding corner cap.
Abstract: A shingle and a method of making it is provided in which the rear surface of the shingle is provided with an attached reinforcement layer through which fasteners may be applied when the shingle is applied to a roof.
Abstract: A package is provided, of specialty roofing materials, including a plurality of stacked shingles in the package, in nested relation, with the shingles being of variable thickness from one end to the other in one or more stacks, as packaged, to be of āVā configuration, and of various selected orientations, and forming a substantially hollow zone, with at least one insert structure to fill the hollow zone and provide support for the end shingle in the stack. The at least one insert structure may be constructed of various materials, such as folded cardboard, cellular foam or the like. Filler material may be provided in the package, for any voids between the stack of shingles and the upper end of the package.
Abstract: A method of making an insulation product is provided. An uncured or partially cured mat containing randomly oriented inorganic fibers and a heat curable binder agent is formed. The mat has a pair of side portions and a first and second major surfaces thereon. A nonwoven sheet is applied to the first major surface. The nonwoven sheet comprises randomly oriented glass fibers. The uncured or partially cured mat is heated with the nonwoven sheet, wherein the mat is cured to form a low density mat and the nonwoven sheet is bonded to the first major surface by the heat curable binder agent.

Abstract: A roof membrane is disclosed, for use in simulating a standing seam metal roof when applied to a roof surface and a roof system is also provided, that employs the roof membrane, disposed between longitudinal, but spaced-apart, generally parallel roof battens. Underlayments of various constructions are also provided, beneath the membrane, as an option. Caps are provided for upstanding legs of the roof battens.
Abstract: A method of making a shingle and the shingle made in accordance with such method are provided, in which a shingle-forming layer of shingle material has a plurality of marks applied thereto prior to or after application of decorative granules to its tab region, and wherein the locations of the marks are sensed by a sensor, that then activates and controls the operation and placement of various shingle-completion steps as a function of the placement of the marks.

Abstract: A variegated polymeric article such as a variegated siding panel having improved depth of color and a three-dimensional appearance is formed having a substantially clear, methacrylic acid based capstock coextruded to a tinted polyvinyl chloride based substrate material. A specially formulated streaker pellet provides accent color streaks within the capstock to simulate a wood grain appearance. The use of a clear capstock material eliminates the need for capstock tinting necessary in the prior art to color match the capstock to the substrate material in post formed variegated vinyl sidings. Titanium dioxide may also be introduced in small amounts to the capstock to provide further ultraviolet light protection to the underlying tinted polyvinyl chloride based substrate material.
