Abstract: An insulation composite for attenuating energy or sound transmission has a body layer of insulating material with a roughly textured face and a uniform thickness solid cover layer permanently embedded in the body layer to a partial depth so that material of the body layer does not protrude through the surface of the cover layer. The body layer can be rigid board or resilient batting such as fiberglass. The cover layer is formed from a curable fluid cast onto the upwardly facing surface of the body layer. The uniform thickness of the cover layer is achieved by spreading the fluid over the surface utilizing a coating bar having a downwardly facing corrugated profile defining ridges in contact with the body layer and grooves between the ridges, such as a wire wound coating bar Some of the fluid is pressed into the body layer by the ridges while other fluid passes through the grooves then settles to uniform thickness over the wet surface of the body layer.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a consolidated form of the commingled continuous filaments of glass fibers and polymeric fibers as reinforcement. The consolidation of the commingled fibers into composite reinforcement can be used in a continuous form or bulk molding compound pellets. The consolidation of the commingled fibers into composite reinforcement can be made in-situ during in-line extrusion of the final end product extrudate, or prepared as a tape or rod and incorporated into an off-line extrusion of final product. The bulk molding pellets are used solely or diluted with an addition of polymeric material for mono or co-extrusion or compression molding.
Abstract: An insulation product, and method of making the same, is provided comprising a mat containing randomly oriented fibers bonded by a binder, the mat having first and second major surfaces and a pair of side portions, and at least one flexible reinforcing layer bonded to the mat between the first and second major surfaces and extending along a length of said mat.
Abstract: A backing sheet, and a system and method of manufacturing a backing sheet with stapling tabs. The system includes a roller device configured to apply an adherent material to a first side of the backing sheet continuously fed from a feed roll. The sheet is then fed to a first pair of folders configured to fold the backing sheet along the edges such that the adherent material holds the first fold in place. The sheet passes through a second pair of folders that form a second fold along the edges of the sheet by folding in the opposite direction as in the first fold. Advantageously, an applicator device is configured to apply a tacky substance, such as a starch solution, between the contacting portions of the second fold, prior to the formation of the second fold. The tacky substance maintains the second fold and prevents the stapling tab from opening during further manufacturing and packaging processes.

Abstract: A duct board or duct liner comprises: an insulating layer formed from fibrous material bound with a resin binder, an outer facing layer adhered to an outer surface of the insulating layer, and a water repellant mat facing adhered to an interior surface of the insulating layer opposite the outer surface to form a duct board material. The mat facing provides sufficient water repellency to repel a mixture of about 40% isopropanol and about 60% water. The duct board or duct liner material may be formed into a tubular shape capable of conducting air, with the mat facing on the interior of the tubular shape.

Abstract: Water-resistant fibrous air duct insulation products and methods for making such products. The products may include a duct board or a duct tube including a first layer of resin-bonded fibrous mat having a second layer of durable, preferably non-woven, facing material adhered thereto, wherein the facing material defines the air stream surface for the board or tube. The duct board or tube is preferably rendered water-repellent at the air stream surface by incorporating a hydrophobic agent into the adhesive used to adhere the second layer to the first layer.
Abstract: An apparatus for positioning a sensor proximate to a fiberizer includes a support means for supporting a sensor, adjustment means for adjusting a position of the sensor, and attachment means for attaching the apparatus to a fiberizer. The adjustment means is coupled to the support means, and the attachment means is connected to the adjustment means.
Abstract: A panel for polypropylene injection molded siding, and for similar materials and/or uses, is mounted in lapped courses with panels attached at butt joints in a direction of elongation. Complementary tabs and slots at the panel ends can be engaged by end-to-end approach of the abutting panels. Additionally, openings for the tabs permit engagement from a position in which the panel ends are already overlapped, which reduces or eliminates the need for endwise assembly space. The slots can be discontinuous on one or both sides, openings permitting lateral insertion of the tabs at gaps, whereupon movement of the tabs along the slots engages the joint. The panels can simulate wood siding and include a step between simulated courses. A gap is provided in the edge of the panel at the step, thus forming an opening for the tab to enter and move along the slot.

Abstract: An insulation delivery apparatus has a hose holder and a nozzle section holder, the nozzle section holder being mounted on an extensible section of the hose holder.
Abstract: A generally rectangular siding panel having a front and rear faces is provided. The siding panel has at least one protrusion disposed along at least one of the faces, wherein the at least one protrusion provides an air gap between the siding panel and a face of a second siding panel when the siding panels are installed in a siding panel assembly. A generally rectangular siding panel having a front and rear faces is also provider where the siding panel has at least one recess or cut spaced along at least one of the faces, wherein the at least one recess or cut provides an air flow path between the siding panel and a face of a second siding panel when the siding panels are installed in a siding panel assembly.

Abstract: A blanket of fibrous building insulation is provided, for in situ cutting to correspond to spacings between studs or like building members between which the insulation is to be applied. The blanket includes a layer of fibrous insulation material and a facing material adhered thereto. An adhesive provides the adhesion between the two layers. Perforations in the facing material provide openings allowing some of the adhesive to bleed into the perforations to be visible from the opposite side whereby a plurality of perforations provide guidelines for cutting the blanket to desired sizes for installation between structural building members.
