Abstract: A polymeric composite is provided which has improved stain preventative properties by virtue of inclusion of at least one compound having multiple functional groups capable of reacting with tannins contained in a tannin containing cellulosic material present in the composite, and a method for its production and prevention of water stains thereon.
Abstract: A device for determining density of a material flowing in a conveying system includes a duct segment in fluid communication with the conveying system. The duct segment is coupled to the conveying system by isolation fittings, which allow the weight of the duct segment to be measured independent of the weight of adjacent portions of the conveying system. Further, a method for determining density of a material flowing in a conveying system includes weighing a duct segment having material free fluid flowing therein. The duct segment having a mixture of material and fluid flowing therein is also weighed. The difference of the two weights is used to determine a linear density of the material.
Abstract: A machine for separating a compacted fibrous material and pneumatically impelling separated fibrous material generally comprising a hopper having a trough at a lower end thereof provided with an outlet, a pair of augers disposed in the trough operable to advance separated fibrous material toward and into the hopper outlet, means disposed in the hopper between an inlet of the hopper and the trough for shredding compacted fibrous materials introduced into the hopper, an airlock feeder having an inlet communicating with the trough outlet, a motor and means for conveying drive from the motor to the shredding means, the augers and the feeder.
Abstract: A clip-on picket fence cap assembly that can resist detachment of a plastic picket cap member from a plastic picket member when significant pulling force is applied to the cap member. The legs of the cap member upon which the clips are installed are very stiff by virtue of being reinforced by gussets that resist deflection of the legs when inserted in a picket. The assembly includes metal clips having outer surfaces that are convex curvilinear in shape that enhances their strength and resistance to deformation. The outer surface of each clip is preferably provided with at least one outwardly projecting retention means adapted for secure embedment into the inner wall surfaces of a picket member when the cap assembly is inserted therein.
Abstract: A corner piece for covering a corner of a structure defined by two mating walls of the structure and for use in conjunction with siding panels attached to the mating walls includes an ornamented central portion having a first and second lateral edges and a first and second side walls. Each of the first and second side walls has an exterior face and an interior face. The first and second side walls are integrally formed with the ornamented central portion and extend from the first and second lateral edges, respectively. The first and second side walls cover a portion of the first and second mating walls of the structure, respectively, and overlap at least a portion of the siding panels when the siding panels and the corner piece are fastened to the structure.
Abstract: A window frame member for inclusion in a window frame assembly is disclosed. The window frame member includes a channel shaped to accept an edge of a siding or sheathing product attached to a structure. The channel has sufficient depth to at least partially cover the siding or sheathing during expansion or contraction of the siding or sheathing. The window frame member also includes a first flange portion that may be used to attach the frame member to the structure. The window frame member also includes a second flange portion that cooperates with the channel to cover the siding or sheathing.

Abstract: A laminated single is provided, having lighter and darker granule portions visible from the front, at different planes; the front-most or anterior plane generally having granules of lighter shading and the more rearward or posterior plane generally having darker granules. The darker granules in the more posterior plane are visible from the front of the shingle to provide visually sharp, precise delineation between zones of lighter and darker shading. The shingles may be of multi-layer construction with suitable adhesives securing the layers together. The darker granules may be visible from beneath the lower edge(s) of the anterior shingle, to provide a shadow line effect. Alternatively, or in addition thereto, the darker shingle zones from the more posterior plane may be visible through tab-separating slots of the lighter shaded anterior shingle portion.

Abstract: Apparatus and method are provided for measuring a dimension of an airborne fiber. The apparatus includes a flow channel for providing a laminar flow to at least a portion of the fibers in air sample and a light source for projecting a light beam along a selected beam path to impinge upon a first fiber in the sample to create scattered light. A portion of the scattered light is measured by a light detector to produce an electrical output which is related to the fiber's dimension.

Abstract: A roof ridge ventilator is provided, comprising preferably a molded ventilator, with openings along the sides thereof for passage of air therethrough and with openings at ends thereof for passage of air therethrough via gaps provided in pluralities of rows of tabs, with a plurality of tabs being in each row, to define circuitous paths for air passage through end walls of the ventilator, with the ventilator being arcuately bendable to accommodate roofs of different pitches and resistance to fold lines being formed in its upper surface when it is arcuately bent, and with a filter medium provided beneath the ventilator.
Abstract: A shingle and a method of and apparatus for making the shingle is provided, whereby patches of preselected granules or combinations of granules are provided, separated by transverse areas of different, preferably darker granules, having slots centrally thereof, to yield the appearance of multi-tab shingles that are thicker than they actually are, with transverse shadow lines. A longitudinal shadow line is optionally provided, along the upper and/or lower portion of the exposed tab.
