Abstract: A single machine (20) for blowing insulation into cavities of buildings and methods of using the machine to deliver insulation are provided. The single machine includes at least one engine (100), a hopper assembly (74), two feeding assemblies (36, 40) each operably connected to an output hose (76, 80), two air blowing assemblies (84, 88) each connected to feeder assemblies. The single machine can independently and simultaneously deliver insulation through multiple output hoses to same cavity of different cavities.
Abstract: A nozzle for a burner including a body having a first end adapted to attach to the burner and a second end configured to discharge gas and oxygen for combustion within an industrial furnace. The body has a plurality of tubes extending therethrough. Each tube has an inlet on the first end of the body, and an outlet on the second end of the body. The tubes are configured to be separate along a substantial length of the body, thereby ensuring that the tubes are not joined together to form a large cavity within the body. Preferably, any overlap between the tubes does not extend beyond ten percent of the overall length of the body. The structure of the nozzle provides thick, strong exterior walls of the body that resist failure.
Abstract: A forming bucket for use in the preparation of gas attenuated fiber insulation products includes a tubular member having a fiber inlet and a fiber outlet. The tubular member has a conical portion disposed between the fiber inlet and the fiber outlet. The conical portion has a smooth curvilinear surface for minimizing turbulence in a fiber stream flowing through the forming bucket during the gas attenuation process.
Abstract: Water resistant fibrous air duct insulation products and methods for making such products. The products may include a duct board or a duct tube including a plurality of layers of resin-bonded fibrous mat. The duct board or tube is preferably rendered water-repellent at the air stream surface by incorporating a hydrophobic agent into the resin of at least one of the layers adjacent the air stream surface.
Abstract: A wind-resistant shingle and a method of making it is provided in which the rear surface of the shingle is provided with an attached reinforcement layer, which resists upwardly wind-applied bending torque when the shingle is installed on a roof, such that the failure of the shingle when it is bent beyond its elastic limit, is resisted until the shingle has absorbed a high percentage of applied torque.

Abstract: Cementitious exterior sheathing products are provided which include a rigid support member affixed to a cementitious layer. The rigid support member includes at least one nailing flange disposed along one of its lateral sides for allowing the sheathing product to be affixed to an exterior wall of a building. Preferred mechanical and adhesive bonding techniques are suggested for combining the cementitious layer and rigid support member together to form an integrated product. Such products are lighter in weight and are more crack resistant than currently available fiber cement trim boards.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing a plank product and related components having a controllable and realistic wood-grain appearance, the planks and related components having at least one accent color, the method including the steps of: a) introducing into an extruder a powdered or pelletized base material and accent color pellets, the base material containing less than about 75% by weight wood flour, and having a vicat softening temperature, the accent color pellets (i) having a higher vicat softening temperature than said base material, and (ii) including a styrene polymer having a high vicat softening temperature and a melt flow index of greater than or equal to 1.
Abstract: This invention relates to methods and apparatus for manufacturing shaped polymeric articles by substantially continuous vacuum forming. The method includes providing a sheet of hot polymeric material which is disposed onto a rotating belt having a mold impression. Vacuum pressure is applied to the polymeric material through the belt so as to draw the hot polymeric material into intimate contact with the mold impression to form a patterned sheet portion and a remaining sheet portion. This method thereafter cools at least the patterned sheet portion below a heat deflection temperature of the polymeric material, forms the remaining sheet portion, and then cools the remaining sheet portion below the heat deflection temperature so that features other than the central pattern, such as nail and butt edges, can be mechanically worked into the polymeric sheet.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a shaped polymeric article is provided. A sheet of extruded hot polymeric material is provided and disposed onto a rotating belt. The rotating belt includes a mold impression therein and a plurality of apertures therethrough. The mold impression resembles a plurality of adjacent shingle impressions of substantially the same length. Each of the shingle impressions includes a bottom edge where at least one of the bottom edges is beveled to give the appearance of shingles having different lengths. Vacuum pressure is applied to the hot polymeric material through the belt, so as to draw the sheet into intimate forming contact with the mold impression to form a patterned central portion. The patterned central portion is cooled below the heat deflection temperature of the polymeric material. A length of the sheet is severed to produce a shaped polymeric article.

Abstract: A system for blowing loose-fill insulation includes a loose-fill blowing machine including a discharge hose. An ionizer is disposed in the flow path of the insulation through the discharge hose, wherein the ionizer reduces the static charge developed on the insulation prior to discharge thereof. A method of reducing static charge developed on loose-fill insulation during blowing is also provided and includes the step of ionizing the insulation in the flow path of the insulation while the insulation is being discharged to reduce the static charge.
Abstract: A phenol-formaldehyde resole resin for use as a binder for glass fibers is acidified with sulfamic acid to a pH of 3 or less after base-catalyzed resinification. An increase in actual solids observed compared with neutralized resin, reflecting a desired improvement in efficiency.
Abstract: An improved hose is used to install loose fill insulation. The hose includes projections extending from an inner surface which serve to condition the insulation as it proceeds through the hose and is dispensed. In a first embodiment of the present invention, the projections are formed so as to be perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the hose. In a second embodiment of the present invention, the projections are formed so as to be angled, by an angle less then ninety (90) degrees with respect to the longitudinal axis of the hose. In a third embodiment of the present invention, the projections are formed with a serrated edge. In a fourth embodiment of the present invention, the projections are formed as part of a cap member which is disposed around the periphery of the hose.

Abstract: A laminated shingle is provided, having lighter and darker granule portions visible from the front, at different planes; the front-most or anterior plane generally having granules of lighter shading and the more rearward or posterior plane generally having darker granules. The darker granules in the more posterior plane are visible from the front of the shingle to provide visually sharp, precise delineation between zones of lighter and darker shading. The shingles may be of multi-layer construction with suitable adhesives securing the layers together. The darker granules may be visible from beneath the lower edge(s) of the anterior shingle, to provide a shadow line effect. Alternatively, or in addition thereto, the darker shingle zones from the more posterior plane may be visible through tab-separating slots of the lighter shaded anterior shingle portion.

Abstract: Building panels are provided, for applying panels, such as siding, roofing or the like to studs, to roofing rafters, or the like, wherein indicia is provided along a panel, giving spaced-apart markings, for guiding one who is applying panels to a building surface, to the location of a next support capable of supporting the panel when a fastener is applied thereto, a fixed or pre-set distance from a support such as stud, roofing rafter or the like. Thus, when adjacent studs, rafters, or the like, are spaced apart a known distance, the indicia will serve to guide the installer to a location where a fastener will engage a support to which the panel is to be applied, even if the visual location of the underlying support is visually obscured, such as by means of a sheet building material between the structural support and the panel. The indicia may take on various forms.
