    Abstract: Disclosed is a double-sided grating waveguide biosensor. The double-sided grating waveguide biosensor is used to sense the properties of a sample solution. The double-sided grating waveguide biosensor comprises a sequential stack of a plastic grating having a grating part, a waveguide layer having a double-sided grating structure, and a channel chip. Furthermore, the sample solution is guided into the channel chip; the light beam is coupled into the waveguide layer via the double-sided grating structure, propagates in the waveguide layer, and penetrates outward. The double-sided waveguide biosensor detects the properties of the sample solution via a variation of a light beam intensity of the outgoing light beam.

    Abstract: Period-one nonlinear dynamics of semiconductor lasers are utilized to provide an apparatus for photonic microwave power amplification in radio-over-fiber links through optical modulation depth improvement. The microwave power amplification apparatus includes a microwave-modulated optical signal generation module and a microwave power amplification module. The amplification capability of the present microwave power amplification apparatus covers a broad microwave range, from less than 25 GHz to more than 60 GHz, and a wide gain range, from less than 10 dB to more than 30 dB. The microwave phase quality is mainly preserved while the microwave power is largely amplified, improving the signal-to-noise ratio up to at least 25 dB. The bit-error ratio at 1.25 Gb/s is better than 10?9 and a sensitivity improvement of up to at least 15 dB is feasible.

    Abstract: A physiological function detecting earphone includes an earphone body, an earplug mounted at one side of the earphone body and defining a window, a light processing module including a light sensing module towards the window, and a signal processing module. A detecting method includes steps: the participant inserts the earplug in the ear canal thereof; the light sensing module senses the changes of light emitted through the window and then reflected by the wall of the ear canal; the light processing module processes the reflected light of changes to get PPG signals; the signal processing module receives and processes the PPG signals to get physiological information of the participant. The window opened in the earplug can gather the light in a narrow area of the ear canal so that reduces effect of manufacturing material on transmittance of light and improves accuracy of the PPG signals and the physiological information.

The upper part and the lower part are designated with inner structures of the head band or the in-ear components. The press sensor detects states of the headphone by judging whether the sensing face is pressed by the upper or lower part by virtue of elastic deformation or movement of the upper part and the lower part at the head band and the joining structure while wearing and removing the headphone. The headphone uses signals from the press sensor to control actions thereof.

    Abstract: A digitally controlled non-inverting buck-boost DC-DC converter system including a non-inverting buck-boost DC-to-DC converter control module and a negative feedback module and applicable for a radio frequency circuit module is revealed. By locking a duty cycle to two specific levels, the non-inverting buck-boost DC-to-DC converter control module only needs a single operation mode to achieve the required effects. Simultaneously, pulse-skipping phenomenon is also avoided. Furthermore, a reference voltage is modified through a reference voltage correction circuit of the negative feedback module to eliminate errors between previous DC output voltage and the reference voltage. Thereby the DC output voltage can remain in a stable state so as to reduce operational defects during the mode transition.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for elevating radiation-sensitivity of cancer cells, which comprises: a nanoparticle containing with a first element, which is iron, copper, or the combination thereof; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the nanoparticle is a metal nanoparticle, an alloy nanoparticle, or a metal nanoparticle with core-shell structure, and the size of the nanoparticle is under a controllable range of 3 nm to 150 nm. In addition, the present invention provides a detection method to detect radiation-sensitivity of the cancer cells through different modalities such as CT or MRI due to its native high CT number and magnetic property. Furthermore, the present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for elevating radiation-sensitivity of the cancer cells through preferential uptake of the nanoparticle, in order to enhance the radiation-sensitivity of the cancer cells and improve the efficiency of radiation therapy to the cancer cells.

Meanwhile, the protein monolayer having the conformation of ?-sheet or ?-helix can be vertically deposited and transferred onto a substrate for various applications according to needs. The present invention can change three-dimensional structures of biological molecules and remain original functions thereof without additionally using any physical/chemical treatment to change the conformation of the globular proteins.

In another embodiment, a nuclear-to-cytoplasmic ratio evaluation method using the above cell image segmentation method is proposed.
