  • Patent number: 5213264
Abstract: A spraying device having a sprayer head and an interchangeable, disposable, recyclable and/or biodegradable, and attachable cartridge, capable of diluting and dispensing a chemical. The device has a rotatable barrel valve to select whether to fill the cartridge, spray the diluted chemical, or prevent any flow. The device further has a pair of coupling tubes which permit the easy connection of the sprayer head to the cartridge in a way to cause, by aspiration, the partially diluted chemical to enter the sprayer head for further mixing and discharge. A rupturable or replaceable membrane is placed across the top of the cartridge to contain the concentrated chemical prior to use. A plug closure permits the addition of a chemical to the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5210348
Abstract: A substantially benzene-free product suitable for gasoline blending is formed from a benzene-containing refinery stream. At least about 30% of the benzene initially present in the stream is catalytically alkylated with C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 olefins to form alkylated products. Most preferably, the alkylation zone is present in the distillation column and the alkylated products drop to the lower portion of the column and are recovered with the heavy fraction. Alternatively, the alkylation zone is downstream of the distillation column and a secondary distillation column removes the heavier alkylated products. The remaining light fraction is hydrogenated to convert substantially all of the remaining non-alkylated benzene to cyclohexane and is isomerized to boost the octane of C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 paraffins, preferably in a single reactor.

  • Patent number: 5201815
Abstract: In an inverted nine-spot pattern in an areally homogeneous reservoir, oil recovery is enhanced when the completion of the sidewells is restricted to the lower 20% of the reservoir. An inverted nine-spot pattern has a steam injection well at the center of the pattern and production wells at each of the four corners of the pattern and at the center of each side of the pattern. Steam is injected at the center well, and oil is produced from sidewells and corner wells.

  • Patent number: 5200928
Abstract: A method for using mode converted P- or S- wave data to delineate the surface of an anomalous geologic structure such as a salt dome is disclosed. Seismic wavefields are propagated from near the surface, through the earth, and through the anomalous geologic unit, so that a wavefield encounters the geologic unit at a non-normal incidence angle to generate a converted S- wave. Incidence angles of the direct arrival and converted waves are then determined. The intersection point of each converted S- wave raypath with each direct arrival raypath is determined, to provide a length of the raypaths. Travel times along the raypaths are determined, and a point on the interface of the anomalous geologic unit with the surrounding earth is determined by comparing raypath travel time differences with the recorded arrival time differences.

  • Patent number: 5198820
Abstract: Satellite-altimetry measurements of ocean water height are calibrated by measuring an ocean water height by using satellite-altimetry at one location during a time period, measuring another ocean water height during the same time period against a known reference on a fixed offshore structure at another location near the first location, and comparing these two sets of measurements. One way of measuring ocean water height against a known reference point on a fixed offshore structure is by measuring the time it takes for pulse of energy to travel from a transmitter at that reference point to the sea surface, and back to a receiver. Another way of measuring ocean water height against a known reference point is by using water-sensitive sensors placed on the fixed offshore structure at known distances from the known reference point.

  • Patent number: RE34250
Abstract: The present invention is a process for regenerating a sulfur-contaminated, highly selective, large-pore zeolite catalyst. It comprises a multistep process involving exposure of the catalyst to a combination of oxidizing conditions, reducing conditions and treatment with a halogen acid gas. These conditions are effective to agglomerate a Group VIII metal and remove sulfur. Thereafter, the catalyst is oxychlorinated to redisperse the Group VIII metal over the catalyst surface. A carbon removal step is optionally included.
