    Abstract: A method and apparatus for programming a cellular telephone with activation parameters. A cellular telephone to be programmed is connected to a computer via a communications interface. A user input device is provided to allow a user to provide programming information, including a cellular telephone type, to the computer. A visual representation of the cellular telephone type is displayed on a display monitor to allow the user to interactively verity the inputted programming information. Upon such user verification, the computer determines activation parameters and transmits the activation parameters to the cellular telephone. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, certain activation parameters are dynamically computed based on the user provided programming information In one embodiment, the user enters a cellular telephone number to be assigned to the cellular telephone. The computer looks up a system identification associated with the cellular telephone number in a memory unit.

The user has the option of making a selection that causes the entire message to be played.

    Abstract: A security system for wireless devices such as mobile phones includes a wireless signal transmitter, and a signal strength detector and microprocessor associated with the wireless device being safeguarded. The microprocessor disables or locks the wireless device if the measurement by the detector of the strength of the signal transmitted by the wireless transmitter is less than a predetermined value, thereby indicating that there is more than a predetermined separation distance between the protected device and the transmitter, i.e., that, e.g., someone has taken the device. The disabled wireless device stays disabled until the measured signal strength is again greater than the predetermined value. Once this value is reached the device is automatically unlocked or enabled.

An origination request is received from the communications device, and the origination request is for sending the message from the communications device. The origination request includes a network address. The network address is associated to a signaling point code, and the signaling point code identifies a message service center in the Global System for Mobile communications network. The origination request is routed to the message service center in the Global System for Mobile communications network, wherein the origination request is processed by the message service center.

    Abstract: A method of dynamic authentication configuration that adjust authentication configuration according to traffic patterns within a system, such as a cellular communications network. In a network, mobile devices are authenticated based on various events, such as an attach, location update, originated call, etc. According to a first embodiment, one or more authentication configuration profiles is defined for a VLR/SGSN and a time schedule/table to automatically update the authentication configurations based on a time. Accordingly, the number authentications for a particular VLR is reduced as signaling traffic increases, and vice versa. In another exemplary embodiment, an HLR monitors system level traffic load to command each VLR and SGSN to change the authentication configurations. Authentication operations are preferably configured on per node and per traffic pattern basis.
